Cancel the reception? Sept/oct brides help!

Laura, on May 14, 2020 at 5:08 PM Posted in California Planning 0 7
My wedding is set for October and I’ve been going back and forth trying to decide what I’m going to do since the paramedic is still happening, I thought it may still happen since we were slowly move towards normalcy .. we were supposed to move into a new phase however it appears the “safe at home” order here in California is indefinitely :/ I’m starting to feel more worried now and feel I need to make a move. In all honesty I’m considering to just forget the big reception and just get married at the court, but that’s not how I envisioned it to be, we have two young kids and they were both so excited about the wedding too so I feel bad just completely canceling, it’s important for me to have a celebration with friends and family.. We’ve been together 15 years and had finally made the decision to have our wedding, so to me waiting another year seems silly, but there were other things we really wanted to pursue the next year so post poning the wedding would push everything back.
At this point I’m a mess with my choices and thoughts.

Hi! I would honestly wait until September to officially cancel. My wedding is in August and our venue is recommending to wait it out until July.

My wedding is September 5th and we are holding on tight until End if June to make a decision. We have been together for 12 years so just like you said waiting another year feels silly. If things dont get better by then , i will just have the church ceremony with my closest friends and family. Im just worried about my reception venue, they wont allow me to cancel the event .if I decide to cancel i will forfeit my deposit.

Hi Laura, I completely understand the frustration. I get stressed every now & then. It's so inevitable. We postponed our April 24th wedding to Sept 25th. There are so many news things happening that I wouldn't make a decision right now. I say wait a bit. We might wait to make a decision by end of July or early August. I know even waiting & not knowing what exactly will happen is also stressful believe me. My fiance has said why postpone so soon, what if that day comes & we are able to do have our wedding then we will regret not waiting. It's best to wait until it's closer because everything I'd changing so quickly. Looks like California is doing a little bit better. Gov Newsom said today that we might be a few weeks away from Stage 3.

    Hi Laura,

I'm so sorry you are going through this! I agree with the recommendations above. I would wait a little longer before making any big decisions. I would also keep the lines of communication with your vendors very open. Things are changing daily!

I think it would be best if you could read through what some other California couples are doing. I have provided a few discussions below. Check them out!

Hi Pamela, Congratulations to you! Yes we’ve been talking about just having a smaller gathering and ceremony than anticipated. I also decided to give myself till June to make a decision, but now I’m hearing they want to start re opening in July so that may have to be the deadline and see how things are then. That really sucks about your venue Smiley sad hopefully this is all over and you can have your wedding just as you planned to Smiley smile thanks for the feedback and advice

Hi Teresa, thanks for you’re feedback. It is very stressful.. but yes the plan for now is to wait and see what the next few months have in store for us. Hopefully you and I will be be able to have the wedding that we have prepared for Smiley smile most importantly so long as we come out healthy, I guess everything else can fall into place even if it’s not how we originally planned for it to be.
