Can you see the tip of your shoes after the alterations?

SunSand, on February 18, 2010 at 10:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Just wondering what the standard lenght of your dress should be once altered..should it drag or brush the ground a little?, or should you be able to barely see the tip of your shoes?

My bridesmaid had her dress hemmed and the seamstress has it about an inch off the ground so you can see her shoes.

Idk mine drags but i am not altering it (it has a lot of bead work on the bottom and I don't want to lose that.) I am not sure what is standard though

I am the same as hislilsass, but mandmglass has it right. i think it depends on what you want. if you bought hot shoes to show off then of course you should be showing them off!

My seamstress said that my wedding gown would just barely brush the ground, any longer and it becomes a tripping hazard. But I'm sure if you wanted to have it higher or longer your seamstress will do it, since it's really all about what the bride wants.

It really is a personal preference. Some people like them slightly higher in the front so their shoes show.

I just got mine back and b/c I am having a beach wedding I can go barefoot..or wear the sandalds in which case I can see the tip, if i go barefoot the dress brushes the ground (which I like better)..so i am torn..according to the lady that did the alterations you should be able to barely see your shoes...

It's up to you if your shoes show.

One tip I have, from experience, is plan ahead if you don't plan to wear your heels for the reception. I don't do well in heels, so I had cute white Skechers for the reception. But, my dress was a little long and I kept tripping on the dress while I was trying to dance. So, if you're not going to wear your heels the whole night, get your dress hemmed a little shorter.

I am wearing a kitten heal for the ceremony, but then putting on some silver sequened Chuck Taylors for the reception. Smiley smile I'll probably have mine just brush the floor because otherwise I'll be tripping, but I don't like it when the front looks high (my own opinion).

My dress is just brushing the ground now - in my bare feet. My seamstress suggested no hemming - and that I should wear at least 1" heels. She said that depending on the style of dress not having heels will cause tripping. She also said that most brides don't get to practice very much walking in their dress without holding up the sides, so they get a little "trippy" when walking down the isle...

    - LilSas... when they do the hem, they do it in ways to not loose any bead work.

I go for my fitting on the 6th. I'm having an outside wedding and do not want it dragging on the ground. Also, I'm thinking that a few hours into the night, I'll prob want to slip my shoes off, thus making me slightly shorter. Plus wanna show off my shoes and pretty toes. So, I think I'm going to go with about an inch and half to two inches off ground.

It's supposed to brush the ground. So be AT ground level or like a cm or something about it.

Mine will brush the ground. Since I have a larger train it wouldn't look right to have the hem higher than that in the front. I still need to figure out shoes tho.
