Can you bustle a tulle dress?

beautyofdreams, on May 17, 2016 at 1:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I have trumpet lace gown with tulle bottom. I plan on wearing it 2 hours into my reception and changing. Should I get a bustle? Can you put a bustle on a tulle dress with horsehair trim layers? I have no idea and was hoping someone could give me some advice! Thanks ladies.

The dress on model.

I would do it as those first two hours will probably involve a lot of walking around and moving between tables. They'll just add the bustle points at the seam where the tulle meets the sheath and then hide the buttons in the folds. I think it's totally doable but check with your seamstress.

My dress had a tulle overlay and needed a 13 point bustle. So just expect it to cost a bit more (and I'm pretty sure my BMs did not bustle it right lol).

ETA better pic of the bustle.

Mine was tulle and it bustled. Don't know the specifics. I took it to the alterations lady the bridal shop recommended, and she did her thing.

Get some good recommendations for an alterations place and trust them to do what you need.

Thanks ladies. I have a feeling its going to be super expensive but definitely don't want to be stepping all over it all night.

Just to tag on slightly to @Staci's comment about her BM's potentially not bustling her dress correctly. My seamstress recommended bringing someone to an alterations appointment so they could film my seamstress bustling the dress. That way on my wedding day my MOH would know how to do it.

Mine was lace and tool and was bustled. I think there was about 15 bustle points. And I brought my mom with me to the fitting so she knew where the loops were.

Good point @Audrey and @Melissa. I'll bring one of my bridesmaids that lives close by with me when the bustling is done!
