Depends on where you stay, how long, etc. We just got back and it was a lot more than $2000, but we went to both Oahu and Maui, did tons of activities and did lots of pampering. That stuff isn't necessary, so if you can forgo such things then you MIGHT be able to do it. Have you looked at the flights? Our flights ate up more than $1000, so if that's your case too then you might want to reconsider your honeymoon destination. You still have to factor food (which is typically quite expensive), hotel, and if you are doing anything other than your hotel pool or beach, then factor rental car or taxi fare. Which island, which hotel, and how long were you planning on going?

Yes, you can! I just did it! So here are my details:

I was flying from western Canada, I imagine flying through the from the States will be less expensive flight wise...

We went to Honolulu, Oahu from July 4-15th,2011
We stayed at the Equus hotel and Marina tower.. It was ok.. good enough for us as we weren't in the room a lot.. the BIGGEST benefit of staying there was that we had a FULL kitchen... this allowed us to buy groceries at walmart and safeway.. we spent about $275 on groceries and cooked just about all of our meals.. I packed a mini cooler for the trip and it was the BEST idea as we could take our own fruit and water and snacks to the beach.. if you are eating out, it is VERY expensive. Also note that groceries in HI are much more expensive than mainland USA, but still way cheaper than eating out.. and healthier Smiley smile So point in case, get a room w/ a kitchen!

We rented a car for 7 days and that cost us about $400 (we were both under 25 at the time so there

Was an extra fee...) a car was absolutely necessary..

I did a TON of research for this trip..figure out what attractions you want to go to.. they vary in price from $5 to $100pp..

I didn't buy really anything there.. I didn't find Hawaii to be a shopping place by any means, not like other places in the States.

So all in all, for 11 complete days, we spent:

$2002.34 - Hotel and Airfare for 2 ppl
    $275 - Food
    $400- Car
    $200 - attractions for 2ppl

    Total: ~$2875.00

Keep in mind, we came from Canada.. We stayed longer than a week... Take off 3/4 nights from the hotel and you'll be down a few $100... and airfare should be cheaper and you will probably need less food!

Pm me for more info Smiley smile

One more thing, the season you go in changes prices drastically! We went in summer, winter months are MORE, mind you, I just saw a Maui pkg for December for $987CAD pp. Patience and shopping will save you tons Smiley winking

A quick search at Kayak.com says greater than 1300/person (that was for 6/24-6/30, since I couldn't look up your dates because they're too far in the future) and from Houston, TX... You just have to dig deeper to get cheaper.

I go to Maui every other year...our family has a condo there...so we don't have to pay for accommodations (only the taxes, which come to roughly $50). A plane ticket, if you find the right deal can cost about $650 round trip per person. But you should start looking ASAP. FH and I are going there for our one year, we'll be coming home the day of your wedding Smiley smile

Before FH, I would save up about $1500 for spending money...this was for activities and food. If you find the right places, you can get great early bird specials! There's a place I found right by our condo that has an early bird special 2 entrees for $20 and it's gourmet food and TASTY I might add! Plus if you look for local smaller places, you can find good deals. But as Christy stated...it's best to find a place that has a kitchen and to purchase your own snacks and foods...it will save you in the long run and allow you to spend more $$ on activities. On a $2000 you won't be able to do much. Have you considered a travel agent?

@elizabeth g: We did SO much... We visted lots of beaches, away from the famous waikiki beach (best decision EVER), we went snorkelling, we went to Pearl Harbour Memorial Site, we went to the Dole Plantation, we did 2 hikes, we went to the zoo, we did some shopping (very little), we didn't go to a luau as it was about $100pp and we decided to put our money elsewhere... oh and we got engaged Smiley smile

Here are some pictures for you!

    1. Me at Dole Plantation

    2. FH and I at eternity beach, right before a hike

    3. Waimea bay beach park

    cont..

    4. FH jumping off rock at waimea bay

    5. Me going into bath tub temperature water at Lanakai Beach

Waimea Bay and Lanakai Beaches were NON-tourist beaches...so amazingly beautiful and not busy!

One more thing! Here is a link of vacation rental places.. you MAY want to consider this as an option. I haven't PERSONALLY tried this yet but we will be looking into it for our next trip.

    http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/hawaii/kauai

There was something else I was going to mention, but I don't remember now..

Elizabeth...I totally understand. If you look at all of what Christy posted...they didn't go to Hawaii with only $2000 ... there was an additional $875 they had to spend when they got there.

So it's possible to get there and get a cheaper hotel...but you won't have much to do...ya know?

Our budget for our HM was $3000. The travel agent we used was amazing and helped us find the best deal and best hotel. We ended up going over the budget by $200. Just an FYI ... also we're headed to Riviera Maya Mexico and staying at an all-inclusive resort. It also has a $1500 resort bucks to use on activities. Honestly...see what your Travel Agent can find for you...other options besides Hawaii.

@Cydney: I totally agree with looking at other places as well.. maybe all inclusive? I think that they could make it within or really close to $2000 as they would be staying for less time and flying out of the states.. but I agree, the travel agent could help them find a good deal I'm sure Smiley smile
