Camera on registry?

MzRosaLu, on December 28, 2015 at 11:08 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

We are making an Amazon registry and the majority of our items are in the $40 range, many gifts even less expensive than that. My question is: could we put a Nikon DSLR camera on the registry (just under $400) or would people find this tacky? I don't really know that anyone would buy it, but it's possible that some of my family members might all chip in for it...and if not, we could use the completion discount to get it ourselves. This would be the one expensive item on our registry aside from the KitchenAid stand mixer that's pretty common. Thoughts?

Register for it! Why not? Like you said, worst case scenario, you get to use your completion discount to get it.

I think it's totally fine to register for some higher-end items. Groups of friends or family may go in together to buy you something like that (like you said).

I say go for it. I've seen people register for cameras before and like you said, you can always use the discount.

So long as you have sufficient items at lower price points, I wouldn't bat an eye seeing a nice camera on a registry. We have a handful of pricey items on ours too, but way more in the under $50 and $50-100 range. Like you said, it could be a group gift option or purchased with completion discount.

We put stuff on our registry that no one will ever buy. Reasoning? To give a better idea of our tastes & preferences.

I agree, go ahead and register for it. Family members may chip in on it. You can also register for the SD cards, a camera bag, lenses, etc to go with it.

I registered for some bigger items for 2 reasons -

    1. family members might go in on stuff together (we put plenty of smaller items on the list

    2. We get a discount after the wedding for any unpurchased gifts. I know I probably won't get the $300 item I included, but I will be able to buy it for a discount after

Register for it! I have seen nice cameras on wedding and baby registries and wouldn't think twice about it.

Thanks, ladies! I was a bit worried about being side-eyed by FH's family lol. But there are so many cheap gifts on the registry that I shouldn't really feel guilty about it. Also @rjmargo great idea about the accessories. Thanks!

Yes, I would say to go for it. When I made ours, I put a wide range (price wise) of gifts- that way no one feels left out because they can't afford something. I think our most expensive thing is a $200 set of knives-- and if no one gets it, that's ok... we can get it ourselves later.

Why not? People will get to know your tastes and desires better, even if they don't buy it.

I'm registering for EVERRRRRRYYYYYTHINNNNNNNNG in the whole world. Including cameras and a snow blower. I do not expect anyone to get these for me - but if they did I'd be ecstatic. As long as you have a bunch of lower dollar amount items, you'll be fine girly!

Yes, register for it. Your other gifts are in a pretty good range, go ahead and splurge. Honestly, as on the guest side, id love to pitch in and get a big gift with friends/fam knowing it would be something you really want Smiley smile

Go for it. I don't know if Amazon gives you a discount, but we put DH's Xbox One on our Target registry just so we could get a discount on it after the wedding.

Go for it! As a guest I love group-buying the big registry items. You can tell that it's what people reallllly want anyway, so (especially at bridal showers) I'll go in with anywhere from 2 to 4 friends and buy the big gift.
