Cake or cupcakes?

Hubby and I are having a debate...I suggested a small cake for us to cut and cupcakes for guests. It's more cost effective, a cake would cost close to $700. The small cake with cupcakes could save us $300. He thinks everyone should get cake. Have any of you been to a wedding where they served...

Thanks for your help.

I’ve never been to a wedding where they’ve served cupcakes but I think it’ll be fun! That’s what me and my future husband are doing also. We are only having a small cake for the big Cake Cutting.

I think it depends a lot on the feel of the wedding overall. If it is a more casual atmosphere I think cupcakes would be totally great! A more formal atmosphere it may seem like it doesn’t fit.

32 guests they had their own cupcake our top of the cake was marble in buttercream 8" round double for $29.99 the cupcakes were also included by our wedding venue. Cute idea during covid, and easy clean up!!!! Congratulations

    Hey Mary
I understand why he’d think it’d be off to just have cupcakes. Cupcakes looks more casual while cakes are traditionally more formal for a celebration. Guests won’t really look at your dirty for having cupcakes instead because it’s not about them having a good meal but it’s about the celebration for the couple. What if instead of having cupcakes have a small buffet of different varieties of desserts. Desserts that you know a lot of your guest would like, specially you guys. For example 20 tiramisu, 20 baklava, chocolate mousse, 20 crème brûlée’s, 20 dan tats, etc,. Obviously the number changes depending on your guests. Any desserts that you can buy on local bakery stores that you know it won’t costs you too much.

We are doing this. We've seen it done several times.
    1) we won't have to have someone cut the cake
    2) we live in covid times. We may individually box each cupcake.
    $300 saved. Um heck yes.

Ladies, thank you for all of your great responses! After showing hubby all of your responses we are doing the small cake for us and a sweets table for the guest which will include cupcakes, Italian pastries, cookies, brownies, etc.

Cup cakes are a little dated. You could always opt for a Viennese display instead and still have your small cake for cutting.

I think with the pandemic cupcakes are safe. But I always find it funny that we (brides) be trying to be minimal and the FH be wanting an ALL-OUT wedding WEDDING!!! Lol

But it wouldn’t be off. Make the cupcakes into a tower like a wedding cake. Have y’alls small cake up top. Just an idea. I would draw it and send it to you for a visual. But I’m sure you can visualize it.
Small wedding cake with topper on a clear tower stand with the cupcakes on lower tiers to fill the bottom below y’all’s small cake.
But remember this is HIS wedding too. That’s what I gotta say to myself. Lol 😂 Cake or cupcakes? 4

I’m doing this!!! It’s cheaper, you can choose more flavors, and it will be quicker to get the cake out to the guests. Nobody has to cut it! Just grab a cupcake and go!

We are thinking of doing the same thing. My FH and I personally are not a fan of cake and thought saving money would be a huge plus! I don’t think it looks weird. I’ve see donut walls and my friend had different desserts instead of cake slices, even sundaes which was awesome. I feel now a days it’s not uncommon for people not to have cake and honestly from what I’ve seen most of the pieces are just picked back up untouched at the end of the night

Even try for mini cupcakes. Someone that wants more It a variety can grab a couple. Someone that’s wants just a nite of sweets can go small without wasting.
