Cake Help !

Mckay, on June 13, 2016 at 4:58 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

Hey ladies,

I know Im posting a lot lately but its coming down to crunch time for me lol.

Can you guys post a photo of your cake, tell me how many people it was for (or exact sizing if you know it) and how much it was please? If you arent married I'd still love to know your cake info and pricing please!

I "booked" my cake on Saturday but my pricing has now gone up (and im now paying $200 in delivery!) So im just looking for a comparison. Thanks!

Well, I can only give you a silghtly different perspective....

We paid only for the ingredients to make our cake. The cake stand was free (property of the baker). This fed way more than the 200 attending, more like 400 to be honest, especially with normal cake slice sizes. We were slicing the cake HUGE because we had too much. Simple, simple design. Only one flavor - white wedding cake with white chocolate cream cheese frosting.

    Ingredients ALONE were almost $400.

My cake is about 1300. It is a custom design by the baker based off of my dress and we have 200 people invited to the wedding. It is 4 tiers and it is supposed to feed 250-300 minus the top tier.

Our cake is 3 tier. We did chocolate with icing filling, white with strawberry filling, and then our anniversary top tier is the chocolate again. The cost is $450 including set up. We did 100 people.

We were inspired by 3 different cakes and had them combined into one.

Where you are located could also have a lot do with pricing as well?!? Maybe.

This is very regional and depends in your bakery. I'm paying $250 for a three tier (75 servings) buttercream and fondant cake with three different flavors/fillings. I have the tier sizes, but on my computer and right now I'm on the app. Simple design and fresh flowers. Local delivery and set up is free. I am in Va. This is very inexpensive even for my area. (I got lucky.) Typically, cakes run $3-4 a serving.

eta: not saving the top layer, it will be served

We are having a 3 tier (6-8-10) lemon cake with raspberry in between layers and buttercream frosting. We will also have a kitchen cake that will be yellow cake with chocolate fudge in between and buttercream frosting. Feeding 120 total, $200. This was the cheapest we found it. The other 3 bakeries we went to were running 440-490 for the same. This is a small family owned bakery that doesn't upcharge at the word "wedding."

I dont have pictures but a 2 tier cake for 35 people, white fondant with a blue ribbon we would provide was quoted for $140. 6in top and 10in bottom. There are only 2 bakeries in town so they can price however they want though. Unless you count a Walmart and a Foods Plus yuck. Edt:this didn't include delivery ($50) or cutting $1.50/piece

Ours was 5 tiers, made to feed 200 minus the top tier. I do not have exact dimensions of each tier though. The piped designs were custom, flavor was butter cinnamon grand marnier with white chocolate ganache filling, all icing was buttercream. We paid between $****, can't remember exactly at the moment. Stand was not included and was rented from the company we did our linens with for $75...I didn't like any of the stands our baker had available.

You can actually look up what size cake serves how many people (reference Wilton)

Cakes are very regional, but can start at a very basic cake for $3-4 per person and go up to $10-12 per person depending on level of detail.

I'm spending about $300 for 8 6" cakes - I'm using them as a centerpiece part on each table. They're going to be very simple buttercream cakes.

Thanks everyone! All of your cakes are so pretty!

@m your cake was GORGEOUS! Thank you for the perspective on ingredients. I hadn't thought of that.

My cake is $536 (so far) and its 6", 8", and 10" so good to know I have decent pricing! My cake is super plain though and square.

My baker is a professional, but only does special event cakes and does not run a bakery. Her pricing was based on icing, actually! We had a 4-tier cake with swiss buttercream icing:

6” top cake tier; serves 10: almond cake with peanut butter filling

8” top mid cake tier; serves 25: red velvet cake with Cream cheese filling

10” mid cake tier; serves 39: Devil’s food cake with chocolate ganache & chocolate crème fillings

12” bottom cake tier; serves 56: yellow cake with Caramel crème filling

Our cake served 120 guests when saving the top tier (which we did). We had 130 guests invited, but our baker told us to subtract about 10% and that was the perfect amount of cake to not have a ton left over, and that advice worked out really well for us!

$4/serving (130 servings total) = $520. There was a small fee for some "construction" pieces and then $60 fee for delivery for a total of $600.
