Cake flavors

What have been your favorites as a guest in the past? What did you like best at your tastings that you decided on? Also any you didn't like or that your important people don't care for that affect your choices? Are you serving one flavor for everyone or multiple?

Champagne cake with berry mousse and hazelnut praline crunch are our flavors.

I’ve never eaten cake at anyone’s wedding.

My favorite cake at a wedding was actually an ice cream cake. The bride and groom (my brother & his wife) had a normal tiered cake and ice cream cake. They had two different flavors for the ice cream cake which were Reese's Pieces and Oreo. The regular cake I think was vanilla with vanilla icing, but I could be wrong since I didn't eat any. I loved that their cake was unique rather than just a normal wedding cake. For our wedding, we only had the option for a traditional cake. It was also incredibly hot that day so an ice cream cake would have melted very quickly. We choose one flavor with one type of icing. We had several different choices at our tasting including chocolate, vanilla, banana, strawberry and I think coconut. I am allergic to strawberries so that one was immediately ruled out even though that was actually my husband's favorite flavor out of all of them. I also am not a huge fan of chocolate cake because I think it can be too sweet at times so we went with vanilla cake and vanilla icing.

Our baker actually didn’t do a tasting, which was odd, but told us she was able to do any flavor we could think of. We ended up doing cookies and cream and apple cider as our flavors!

We went to a winter wedding that had a white chocolate cake, with some stripes of milk chocolate and raspberry syrup. It was freaking amazing! LOL.

We're not serving cake to our guests. We're having a small cake just for the couple to cut (not sure what flavor yet) and the guests will get a parade of different mini desserts. We will also have a tea/coffee station with cookies and pretzels. Smiley smile

I originally wanted coconut, but asked around the family and did not seem popular 😂 We went with guest choice of white or lemon (summer wedding). Everyone seemed to love the lemon 🍋🍰🌼

We served chocolate with cookie dough filling, spice cake with caramel apple filling, and strawberry with cream cheese frosting. We also sampled a pink champagne cake with raspberry filling that was so good I could have cried, but we unfortunately ended up going with a different baker.

I’m not a chocolate fan, so chocolate cake is a no-go for me. That being said, my husband loves marble cake, so we’re having two tiers of marble with whipped cream filling, one tier of vanilla with whipped cream filling, and then for the top tier, strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting and raspberry jam. Honestly, though, in my opinion, the best cake is a nice, moist cake with fresh ingredients.

We would not have thought those flavors would go together. We were set on chocolate and vanilla and strawberry was the one we were least excited about but that was our favorite following chocolate. We would have never thought those flavors together but glad we did.

Personally, we do not like chocolate or any weird flavors like some of the above listed lol so we stuck with carrot cake with butter cream, vanilla and buttercream, and a vanilla vegan butter cream and they were amazing 🤩

I fell in LOVE with an almond cake with almond cream cheese icing during my cake tasting ... not too sweet, but a nice, unique flavor. I loved it soo much, that’s the flavor we chose. I had never had it before. Your cake tasting sounds like it’s going to be fun — such yummy flavor options. You will indeed have a difficult decision, but a fun one!! 😊

If it doesn't have chocolate, I won't eat it.

This is partly because I'm a chocoholic, and partly because I am very sensitive to sugar and I find most flavors that aren't chocolate load up on sugar.

We had a marbled vanilla/chocolate cake with dark chocolate filling.

I went to a wedding and there was coffee flavored cake! That was interesting to me just because I haven’t seen that as a wedding cake flavor in my personal experience

We did a chocolate cake with fresh strawberry filling and vanilla buttercream frosting on the outside. It was delicious. When we did our tasting, that gave us several cake pieces in different flavors and different fillings on a platter so we could try all sorts of combinations.

We did cinnamon brown sugar with cinnamon cream cheese frost and fresh strawberry with vanilla cream cheese frosting. Honestly, the cinnamon brown sugar was the best cake I had ever tasted in my life. During our tasting, it was the first one I tried and I knew we had to have that.

Don't forget to ask your baker about tasting other items if you want something besides cake. We also did a tasting for several desserts and ended up with a wedding cake and dessert bar.

We're doing a 2-tier cake, one tier almond cake layered with raspberry buttercream and raspberry preserves (my pick) and the other tier red velvet cake layered with cream cheese buttercream and chocolate ganache (my fiance's pick). We're also doing a 1/2 sheet black bottom (chocolate and cheesecake swirl) cake with salted caramel buttercream! Splitting the total number of servings into a smaller tiered cake and a sheet cake will save us some money and provide more variety!
