Cake cutting song

Kimi, on January 6, 2016 at 5:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 27

There have been lots of threads about which song to play for processional, recession, first dance, parent's dance, etc. Thought I'd ask what song you have chosen for your cake cutting. My top three were: Sugar, Sugar (The Archies) - vetoed by FH, Sugar (Maroon 5) - vetoed by FH, & How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) (James Taylor). Never thought FH would feel so strongly about this particular aspect of the wedding, but I had to let him have his way since 90% of everything else is mostly me asking "What do you think? Can we do this/it this way?"

Hmmmm, good question. I hadn't even thought about this. I just found this link to some ideas though: http://www.alphatunesdj.com/event-planning/top-50-wedding-cake-cutting-songs.html

We used Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith. It was a hit with our guests!

We used "1,2,3,4" by the Plain White T's.

Don't let it stress you out too much. I promise hardly anyone will remember or notice.

My dh picked the song we used, partially because I love the band. My sister (and moh) does too, we used to go to a bunch of concerts together. After the cake cutting I asked my sister what she thought of the song choice and even she didn't remember it. This was only about an hour after cake cutting, and it was a song very familiar to her. My point is that if she didn't even remember it an hour later, I doubt anyone did.

We didn't pick one and I believe the DJ played Sugar by Maroon 5.

I didn't pick one. There was music playing, I remember, but I have no clue what song it was.

No clue what ours will be yet, but I do have some of the above in mind and also "Build Me Up Buttercup". I do have to say that my favorite cake-cutting song at a wedding was "Be Our Guest" by Beauty & the Beast. You could hear people raving about it while it was playing, lol.

Ours was "I Choose You" by Sara Bareilles. It was originally our entrance song, but then I changed my mind. I still wanted to use it, though, so it became our cake cutting song.

We used "Pour Some Sugar on Me". I remember hearing the first few notes and nothing else because I was so focused on the actually cake part. I really wouldn't think too hard about this one.

We walked in to "The Way You Make Me Feel" by Michael Jackson, and immediately cut the cake after, so I guess that was our cake-cutting song!

We'll be using "How Sweet It Is" at our DJ's suggestion since it was one thing I didn't really care about.

We didn't have a song either. The DJ was playing soft music throughout the whole dinner and we just had that continue (we cut our cake before the dance so our older guests could be there to see it and have a cupcake). I have no idea what we playing when we actually cut the cake.

We didn't have a cake cutting song. Everyone was up watching us and taking pictures so they moment didn't need a song. If you can't find a song you both like then don't worry about it. It's not worth the stress.

We played "Your Love Keeps Lifting me Higher" by Jackie Wilson. The cake cutting song was pretty much the last thing I cared about; we just picked one because there was a line for it on the DJ form.

Honestly, I didn't even hear most of THE songs the day of. Not because the sound system was bad, but because I wasn't paying attention. I heard the first few notes of my processional song and that was it, and I didn't at all hear our recessional or cake songs.

We used "Fly me to the moon", by good ol blue eyes. One of DH's favorites and he wanted it incorporated somewhere. No one noticed... They were too focused on whether or not we were going to smash cake in each other's faces.

We didn't have a song. Cutting the cake took all of maybe a minute and people were calling things out and laughing and cheering and it was super fun. I would not stress over this.
