Cabell rhymes with Scrabble.. How didn't I know this?

My head has been pronouncing it wrong this whole time. And I've been here for 6 months now. And I even just found another post where Cabell specified that it rhymed with Scrabble.. *sigh* I feel like an old, lost, confused lady...

Nicci, I think most people pronounce my name with more of a southern-ish sound. They say Tam, rhyming with Pam or Ham or Can (the tin kind). My parents say the Tam, in a way that rhymes with the 'a' in Cabell's name or the word Scrabble. I want to say that it's a shorter a, but I can't really find an etymological example of it.

FYI- My real name is pronounced Kay-tee Smiley winking In case anyone was wondering.. lol

Nicci- I say your name right! Yay!

Tammie- I'm kind of getting it. Its almost like Teh-mee, except more of an A sound than an E sound? Maybe that was a bad example.. But I think I get it. Its kind of like the name Kara- people from the south (maybe other people, I don't know) say it like care-uh, but a lot of people I know who are from a more northern region say Ka-ruh.

Analy- So how exactly is your name pronounced? I mean.. We've been saying Cabell wrong this whole time, we might be saying yours wrong too!

Hahahaha... I've been pronouncing EVERYONE's name wrong. Except for a few obvious ones lol.

My name is Danya. I get called "day-neeah", "don-eeah", "dan-ah-eeah", "deh-niah", etc. as a speech pathologist, used to phonetically transcribe everything, I made a sign for my desk, with my name in IPA spelling Smiley smile

It is actually pronounced "dawn-yah". Go figure.

Also, my name is a common Russian boy's name. My mom found it in a magazine... and now I get random Facebook friend invites from Russian creepos.

    Thanks, mom.

    HA! Most people do!

It's pronounced "Anna-lee", but smoosh it all together, like "Annalee".

Most people want to say an-NAL-ly, or AH-na-lee. Anymore, nothing offends me! Half the time, I just go by Annie.

My brain cannot take all of this confusion this morning. Could you all just give me a call and tell me how to pronounce your names? It would make my life easier. I need to get off of here now though before I find any more diy projects I want to add to Britt's wedding.

Okay.. I've been saying it right! I know someone named Marilee.. Pronounced like Mary-lee, but people say it like "merrily" so I'm pretty sure she feels your pain.

Oh and Danya, I'm slow, and have been pronouncing it Dana. For some reason when I looked at it I saw Day-na.

Unique- Just say Scrabble.. And then put a C instead of SC, and that's how you pronounce it!

Tracy, sorry! I actually get confused trying to explain it myself. All I know is... the way most people say my name is not the way my parents would. More and more, I'm just convinced that my parents picked a weird way to say my name and I just go by Tam (rhymes with ham and can and Pam). Except at work, where I'm Tamara (and open up a whole new can of worms).

Yeah, my name is JUST Katie, not Katelyn or Katherine. And people constantly correct me (like at the DMV, or somewhere where my full name is needed) and say "We need your FULL name, no nicknames." Umm, Katie IS my name.
