What are you ladies doing? I'm starting to look into catering and am kind of leaning towards plated but I'm not sure yet...

We are doing a heavy hors d'oeuvres reception. We get the choice of a few action stations too! We can do things like a sushi station, crab cake station, pasta station, or a few carving stations. For us, we didn't want to spend a ton of time eating--we want to partay!!

We did a buffet, for my daughters wedding. It was actually more expensive than plated, but, we had more choices. We had 134 guests. There was never a delayed line for food and people could go back, if they wanted more. There was food leftover. The hotel staff had to love that, as servers were able to nosh on some great food.

We're doing an attended buffet. We're getting married on a Friday, and the Friday specials only offered buffet style. I would prefer family style, but they don't offer the family style option at all.

We had an amazing buffet. It was so much easier than tracking down guests choices for meals...who is vegetarian? Who is gluten-free? Who has a nut allergy?? Etc etc...it was hard enough tracking people down for their RSVPs--I can't imagine having to get everyone to tell me what they wanted to eat more than a week in advance of the wedding.

Our guest list was about 50 people, and everyone went thru the line quickly (double-sided) and were able to get seconds (it was THAT good). People kept coming up and complimenting us because they had been expecting 'cold, nasty wedding food' and this was actually a meal they WANTED to eat. :-)

We are doing a buffet and I am doing all the cooking for my own wedding. It was one request a lot of people have made. I did my future in-laws 50th wedding anniversary party and I recieved so many offers for catering it was funny... So I decided to do my own wedding. I know what everyone will get and they can eat as much or little as they want.

We are doing a plated dinner, with a bit of a twist. Both the salad and the carb (pasta with sauce) are family style. So they will be refilled and people can load up on them.

I've been to too many weddings and events with buffet and I'm usually the last one up and everyone else has finished. This is one of the reasons we did plated. Also with somewhere between 160-180 people, buffet would have been hard.

I think I am going to do a buffet because it will be more affordable... I'm concerned it will be on the casual side but as long as my guests have fun, I think it will be okay..
