Buffet vs Plated

Emily, on June 21, 2012 at 11:14 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 50

What are you ladies doing? I'm starting to look into catering and am kind of leaning towards plated but I'm not sure yet...

We did plated because we just didn't want a buffet feel for our dinner. We had multiple options for their entrees. You know your crowd and what look/ feel you are going for , whatever you choose good luck!

I'm doing plated. I had buffet at my first wedding (at the time that's all I could afford). At my venue the price is the same, however, I didn't want to have my guests waiting on line for their food and I think plated will make that portion of the reception go a little quicker so we can get to the dancing.

We're doing plated. We're giving people food options on the RSVP cards. We're doing plated for one, because then no one has to wait in a long line to eat. Secondly, you know you're not going to run out of food and lastly, you don't have to worry about what an empty buffet looks like at the reception.

I'm doing buffet. I went to a plated wedding and it took FOREVER because of all the courses and them not clearing plates til everyone at the tables was done.

We are doing a buffet. It was a few dollars cheaper and I have been to this venue before for 3 Other Occasions and they were all buffet style. Didn't mind it at all and guest can go for more.

We did plated, it was a must for DH.

Personally I really don't care, either is fine as long as the caterering staff is organized.

Buffet allow your guest to eat more or less if they want. Before they go to buffet line,,, they can pass by your table for a quick picture ... lots more fun ideas with buffet style Smiley smile))

We are doing a buffet. The crowd we are inviting to the wedding are serious eaters, so there was really no other way for us. Plus, my parents paid for the catering and I don't think I could convince my mom to pay for a plated dinner. We only have 75 guests, so people won't be standing in line forever. Plus, they have many choices.

@Jabez good point never thought of that!

@Soon To Be Mrs C I'm having the same ammount of guests(:

Buffet isnt a no I'm definatlly keeping my options open but prefer plated. Maybe buffet would be better because theres more choices. But I also dont wanna run out of food if we have a buffet

Plated for us. I'm not a huge fan of buffets, personally. Also, I'd hate for our grandparents who are using walkers to have to worry about standing in line or having to ask someone get their plates. They've got 3 meals to choose from, which in my opinion is plenty of choices. But to each their own Smiley winking

The way my work does it is the head table and the family table get served family style and the rest go through the buffet. It is very quick and simple. You can check to see if your venue does family style.

We're doing an attended buffet and carving stations with a seated salad course. Our guest list is rather small (50ish) and the buffet offers more selection than the plated option.

Your venue should specify if the buffet will be replenished. Ours will be for 2 hours so there will be no empty pans or cold food.

We will be served at our sweetheart table, along with a couple special needs guests.

I hate lining up for things, and much prefer being served a dinner.

    But buffet offers more selection.

around here buffet is more expensive. (and I know my family would think I cheaped out if I got buffet, they would assume it was cheaper, and they would bitch about having to wait in a line for food)

    So we did plated

Our venue only offers buffet (it's on a boat), but our wedding has a much more casual, comfortable feel. Plus, I personally like having options rather than choosing my meal ahead of time.

We were leaning towards a buffet, as we are on a tight budget, however the dual plated dinner was cheaper than the buffet! SO - plated dinner it is! Smiley smile

We had a family style dinner. I haven't seen that at many other weddings, but our caterer was ethnic and it's common in the culture to have nothing but family style dinners. IMO it was the best of both worlds - whatever selection/amount you want, but you don't have to get up and stand in line. Smiley smile

Also made the RSVP process and place-card-making process a lot easier. I didn't have to track entree selections, same would be true for buffet.

As a guest I'm fine with either, as long as I get to eat in a reasonable timeframe and the food is good and the right temperature.

We are doing buffet. I think that gives guests more options, I've gone to wedding with plated dinners and I barely touched the food. I guess it also depends on the food being tasty.

To any extent, I think for 70 people, the buffet won't take a crazy amount of time Smiley smile and for us it was cheaper too Smiley laugh

I am doing half plated..half buffet . I wanted plated but that option was not completely available. MY wedding is destination (Barbados) and they usually only do up to a max people of 60 for plated.. Unfortunately they could not accomadate my size wedding (160) for plated.

They are actually setting up seperate buffet stations so that there is more than one spot and people do not have to line up. For the plated portion they have will be serving the head table & the A guest list tables
