Buffet Style Catering Prices...?

FutureMrsF, on July 23, 2013 at 10:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

The FH and I have decided to have a picnic style buffet catering service... the menu includes

Pulled Pork Barbecue

Grilled Marinated Chicken Breast

Herbed Mayonnaise and Barbecue Sauce

Basket of Seeded Kaiser Rolls

Pasta Salad with Fresh Vegetables in an Italian Vinaigrette

Creamy Redskin Potato Salad

Fresh Fruit/Vegetable spread

Caesar Salad

PLUS soda/tea/water etc for refreshments

I am very new to the wedding scene and still in the planning stages..

the caterer that I have talked to about this menu has approximated the price to about 13$ a person and our guest list is approximately 90 people... totaling the catering cost to $1170

is this reasonable?

That sounds very reasonable to me. Some questions you might want to ask the caterer:

    -Does that include taxes?

    -What about gratuity?

-Do they provide servers, set-up, clean-up? At what cost?

-Are they providing dishes, utensils, serving trays, warmers, etc?

You've got time so it doesn't hurt to ask questions and do some comparison shopping!

I think pricing depends on the area, but that sounds like a great price to me!

Well she's in Pennyslvania, right? Either way, that's an amazing price. Even down in Alabama (my home) that would be a good price.

I think that sounds great! I am from a rural area a few hours south of Chicago and I think the cheapest price I was quoted was $18 and that was for only one choice of meat.

That's a really good price. My venue does a similar menu for parties (they won't do it for weddings) that is $35 pp. make sure you ask the questions Shannon mentioned, though.

Well, that sounds good, but what are your other costs? Venue? Rentals?

We had my daughters wedding at a hotel. It was a buffet dinner, with appetizers during the cocktail hour. The only extra expense I had (as the one paying the tab) - the napkins....the hotel did not have the color I wanted, so I spent an extra $85 (I had a coupon from a Bridal Show.)

Like i said before, i'm not really sure of the cost of anything else... i have not done very much planning yet. (sadly i have a horrible procrastination habit) the caterer and the venue are the only things i have really researched so far.

Thats an awesome price. I work for a hotel/ casino and we have a buffet on our catering menu similar to that and the cost is $28 per person. This does NOT include tax or gratuity.
