Buffet - how many extra plates to order? (40-45 guests)

Harts&Bows, on July 14, 2017 at 4:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Hi All,

It's looking like we are going to have between 40 and 45 guests at our wedding. We're doing a buffet with the plates at the buffet table. I would like to have all ceramic plates, no plastic/paper/etc. How many extra plates would you recommend we rent to accommodate those wanting seconds? We are serving wood-fired pizza and salad, so I would anticipate seconds are likely. Should I double or does that sound crazy?

Ahh the details Smiley smile

I would say at least double it because everyone might want seconds.

I'd say double it as well. Or just make it an even 100 just in case.

Yep haha I'm sending an email to the rental company now to update to an even 100. Y'all are on point. Thank you!!

    100. I'd also have a couple of packs of disposables JUST to be sure!

A lot of times the rental company can suggest an amount.

I had this same question, and now I have an answer! Double it is! Definitely don't want to run out of plates/silverware of all things!

I'd say double but to be honest for me as a guest, I'd just reuse my plate when I go up for seconds. It's pizza, not something that my plate will get horribly messy.

@VC - if the event is being professionally catered, guests will not be allowed to reuse plates. It's a health code violation. If the serving utensil touches the dirty plate, it then contaminates the entire serving dish.

I would definitely double the number and add in more just to be on the safe side.

It is being professionally catered. We made it and even 100. That's just shy of 2.5x the guest count so hopefully we'll be okay with that Smiley smile

I agree, double the amount. People do not deserve a dirty plate for seconds. I waited tables in college and dirty plates are a violation of CA Health Code for Food Handlers. Don't forget dessert plates too.
