Broken ring, completely devastated *UPDATE*

Melissa, on July 13, 2017 at 7:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 52

Update in comments!

Today I left work, went to the grocery store, went to take my purse off my arm, the strap caught my ring, and my band snapped (ill put a pic at the bottom). I immediately called fh in tears. This is the 3rd ring I've had of this style because of complications with it. I called zales immediately, thank god i don't erase voicemails because I had the number for their customer service manager from my last issue with it. She's awesome and really helping me a lot. But I'm still devastated. And fh feels absolutely horrible about it, even though it's not his fault. And I feel bad that he feels bad. It's just a super shitty situation. And I haven't decided what my outcome is going to be yet. Just needed to vent because it's been a really bad couple of hours.

Oh no!! Totally understandable that you're both upset. Is it under warranty?

I refuse to get this same ring after all the issues I've had with it. I'm currently deciding if I want a new ring all together or take my stone and put it in a custom made setting.

I'm not sure about the mm of the bad, but it's really small.

Oh no!! I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way but is the ring real? I've never actually heard of that happening!

It almost looks like it was super thin to start with and then it was sized poorly or too many times

Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!

Honestly, if you keep having issues with that style and store, I would take the center stone and get it reset in a new setting.

@jillian I'm not at all offended. Yes it is real. The issue is its rose gold, which is softer. The band is very thin and it's been sized. The integrity was just ruined is the problem, which is why I refuse to get the same ring

You'd think they would know that rose gold plus a small MM would be a recipe for this to happen, but I guess jewelry stores just don't care. Hope you can get something that you love!

Mines pretty thin at 2 mm and it seems sturdy, although it is 14k yellow gold, not rose. (I wanted rose, but the yellow was on sale for 70% off LOL)

I'm sorry this happened to you, I would be very upset as well.

I have a rose gold ring and it's pretty slim and has been on my finger for 2 years. I'd want my (FH's?) money back and would take my business somewhere else. Three times is too many in my opinion.

Could you do that and maybe go with a local jeweler instead of a chain?

Oh I see! Thanks for explaining! I hope you're able to use your diamond on a bigger band!

I'm getting my e-ring back from the jewelers on Saturday. It's the 2nd time in a month. First I lost a blue topaz out of the side, and this time the center diamond (half carat) IN the 6 prong setting came out! It was a total miracle that I found the setting in the trunk of my car. This time, the owner of the jewelry store (who only designs on commission now besides owning 2 stores) is personally remaking the store for me.

I have the same style and I can't imagine it doing that! That's just insane to see!

I'm glad you realized it and we're able to save the ring!

Unfortunately I have heard of this kind of thing happening very frequently with zales.

I didn't know rose gold was softer. I thought it was the opposite? It might just be the poor quality of the ring. Unless it's 18k or 24k, there no reason for the band to break like that. I'd see if they would just give you a credit to apply towards a ring with a thicker band.

I am SO sorry this happened to you. Since this isn't the first issue, I'd probably ask for a full refund and go to a different jeweler. How sentimental are you about keeping this ring (assuming it's the one he proposed with)? Maybe take the loose diamond and get it set at a different jeweler? I'd avoid any chains honestly.

As awesome as the Customer Service Manager has been to you at Zales, I'd probably try somewhere else. I've heard both Zales and Kay aren't very good quality. I get rose gold is softer, but for your ring to break three times in such a short period of time by doing such simple things... Doesn't bode well for your next one.
