Have any of you had issues with bridesmaids not wanting them to wear what you want them to? I have always LOVED strapless dresses and that’s what I want my bridesmaids to wear, we are paying for their dresses and I want them to all wear the same dresses. I have not, and am not a bridezilla in anyway...

I agree with all the posters who are saying that strapless dresses probably shouldn’t be a requirement and that a bridesmaid not wanting to wear one doesn’t make her bridesmaidzilla. I’ve made the same request for weddings I’ve been in, partially because I’m a DD and I don’t feel like flashing the world. Almost every wedding I’ve been to or in (which is probably 40 total), when someone wore a strapless dress, they were either falling out or trying to pull it up all day/night. Unless it is fitted extremely well to the individual person (with expensive alterations), there is no guarantee that it will work well. I chose a dress I liked for my girls, but gave them the option to find something else in that color scheme. Ultimately, they all loved the dress I suggested and found it flattering and comfortable. I can’t wait to see them all together in it!!

I don’t know if you’ve read anything else I’ve said it’s not that she is uncomfortable wearing strapless, it’s that she just doesn’t like the style of strapless.

Some women have a hard time wearing strapless and u really should take that into consideration. My daughter for example. She 19 and can not do strapless because her boobs r literally a cup size different so strapless just dont work for her. Also not all size women r comfortable in strapless. Please consider how ur closest people feel.

I also posted a picture of the dress I actually picked. We didn’t end up going with strapless.

I get this. I have three lbgqt bridesmaids who normally dress more masculine and i know the thought of wearing a dress is probably way out of their comfort zone so i went with jumpsuits. They are still pretty feminine jumpsuits and a couple have asked if they can change after the ceremony. I’m pretty laid back so this didn’t bother me at all. After the ceremony and wedding party pics I’m okay with them changing before the reception. We aren’t doing a head table just a sweetheart table for me and FH. It’s all working out pretty well. Idk what your timeline is but maybe you could consider that. Or allow her to wear a shaw or overlay. Good luck! ❤️

Strapless dresses are super unforgiving on many body types, so I can totally understand why some girls may not want to wear a strapless dress. My MOH literally used to model (she's 5-8 and a size 0) and has trouble with strapless dresses because of the armpit area. I never wear strapless dresses because I have a long torso and shorter legs and strapless dresses always make my armpit to clavicle region look oddly long and disproportionate to the rest of my body. However we both could wear a strapless dress and probably tolerate it if we had to. For some women, a strapless dress can not only be unflattering but also super uncomfortable to wear. Those with bigger chests may struggle to find an undergarment that works and provides adequate support.

Yes its your wedding, but I feel like if the strapless dresses are a comfort/modesty issue for some of your maids (not just a confidence one) then you should really try to find an alternative option that your maids can wear and not constantly be pulling up their dresses to avoid a nip slip. Additionally, if you do want to stick with a dress style that most of your maids dislike, I would at the very least make sure you find a very affordable option. No one wants to spend several hundred dollars on something that is unflattering and uncomfortable and they will never wear again.

As a final point, my MOH works in fashion/retail and will point out that if you put people in clothes they are comfortable and look good in and that make them feel confident and sexy, they will be happier and it will shine through in the way they smile and carry themselves. I personally think its better to be less set on an exact style or color and give your maids guidelines and a bit of flexibility in choosing their looks, because your want your best friends to be comfortable and focused on helping you enjoy your wedding day, not how awkward they feel or constantly adjusting an ill fitted or comfortable garment. Having confident, happy bridesmaids ensures that your wedding party photos will look great!
