So Ive been searching high and low for bridesmaid dresses that I like. I finally found some. I initially was going to have everyone wear the same dress. Now I am thinking maybe ill let them pick the dress style. I'm afraid everyone will pick the same dress except maybe 1-2 girls, there is 6 all...

Now I am thinking maybe ill let them pick the dress style. I'm afraid everyone will pick the same dress except maybe 1-2 girls, there is 6 all together and that may be look odd. has anyone had experience with this? Which option to do you pefer? Matching or non Matching.

Mine will be in different dresses but the same color. Not every dress style fits every girl the same. I want em to be comfortable and get what fits their body. I've seen several non matching bm's and love it. I think as long as it's the same material and length it looks good!

I like the matching look better. My bridesmaids all agreed on the same dress so that worked out well!!

There is a difference in mis match that is cohesive and put together vs looking like a bunch of friends that took a pic together at a formal or another friends wedding

I was in a wedding that we got to pick between 2 dresses. There were 7 of us, and we split 3/4. It didn't look bad. Just make sure the dresses look nice with each other.

I love the look of non matching. Guide them to length and color. Boom! Gorgeous!

I've personally never been of fan of letting people pick a style of dress. One of my best friends did that for her wedding a few years ago. Two of five had the same dress (neither were the MOH) and the colors were all mildly off. We also had a odd variety in length. It didn't look good in pictures at all.

If you want to add diversity, try letting the girls chose their own shoes (in the same color) or maybe their own hairstyles. Having multiple different dresses really only works in theory.

I personally like the mismatched look better. IMO, it looks more modern. I think matching your bridesmaids to your napkins and stuff like is a little dated. Then again, I also don't have official "colors" and hate 99% of all bridal and bridesmaids dresses SOOO take my opinion with a grain of salt. Our BMs will probably be in pretty dresses/pants/outfits of their choosing that complement one another and were NOT ordered from a bridal shop. It's more work, but I think it's a fresher look. It really just depends on what you are going for and how traditional you want you wedding party to look.

I'm team mismatched but cohesive! I have one MOH and one bridesmaid so I'm asking them each to pick a black dress.

Sorry team mismatched here. I just told mine the color pallet and no satin and they all told me they wanted short. When I look back at my pictures I hope I will see my awesome gorgeous friends and all our happy faces, not their dresses.

Initially I though that I wanted mismatched, but I changed my mind and my girls will be matching.

I actually have 8 Bm's and I prefer them to be all in the same dress, 2 of which are technically my junior bridesmaid so of course nothing too revealing up top or too short. Just thought it'd look better and be easier for everyone to get the same dress!

Nichole, hi there, I see you're new. Just to let you know this thread is several days old. It sometimes happens when you do a search for threads.

I'm team #unmatching. I only have two bridesmaids so I let them pick out their own style that they liked.

I gave my girls each a specific color, and gave skirt style and length but the top of the dress could be whatever they wanted. I've gotten varied feedback. Some say I have too many restrictions, some just wished I'd picked for them so they don't have to choose, but most I think liked the freedom to hunt for their own dress in their own price point. I want them all to look and feel beautiful, but not break the bank. And they range from sizes 6ish to 16ish and 4'11.5" to 5'10" so one dress does not fit all.

I say non-matching. I am not having a wedding party, but i have been in wedding parties. The part that sucks is buying a dress you don't like and/or won't wear again. At least if you let someone pick their dress they may be more likely to wear it again and it won't be a loss of money for them.

I like @NowASeptMrs bridesmaids dresses though. That is a style I think most people could wear again.

I've been in two bp's before... one where we all wore the same dresses, which looked nice. My sister had 8 people in her party.. my youngest sister and I wore a similar dress to the rest, but with a different neckline. I thought it was weird at first but it looked really nice. We went shopping for my girls a couple weeks ago, and I was team whatever you feel comfortable in. I knew the color, and wanted long, but other than that, be comfortable. They all ended up loving the same dress, which made me so happy. Now that it's done, I'm glad it ended up that way.

We went with same color and designer and 3 style options which are all same length but different bust-line. I'm fine with a little variety. I also love the looks when people do completely different but complementary and the same - it's up to your personality - do you like the uniformed look?

I'm team non-matching, but I also only have my two sisters. Their dresses aren't too far off from each other but they are different colors and styles.
