Bridesmaid's dress as a wedding dress??

starlette7886, on August 26, 2010 at 9:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I have found some beautiful bridesmaid's dresses at Alfred Angelo that, if ordered in white and sashed up the right way, would make beautiful wedding gowns! They are around $250 and cheaper, and would be sooo much cheaper than almost $1k on a gown. I just want a pretty dress for my renewal; it doesn't have to be some princess themed, tricked out gown.

Have any of you ever done this to slash prices on your wedding's botton line? How did it work out?

I think if that's what you're comfortable with and you feel beautiful in it,then there's nothing wrong with that.

That said, will you ever regret NOT buying a bridal gown?

Davids Bridal has some less expensive ones and you could check out Ebay,Recycledbride.com and some other 'used' places.

Keep in mind that not ALL dresses have been 'used' and alot of times they are really inexpensive.

If you need alterations, there HAS to be a seamstress around you and they are usually VERY fairly priced.

At the end of the day,it's YOU day and do what you need to to feel like a bride Smiley smile

I know alot of brides who have done it! Click that damn button!

It's especially appropriate for a vow renewal.

I think that this is a great idea. If it were me, I would purchase a dress that I could wear again. But that it just me. :-)

If I decide to go this route, I'm going to get one I can wear on the formal dining night of our cruise we're going on after our renewal.

I'm going to talk to the lady I've been in contact with at AA to see if they can order the corset in the teal color I wanted.

I'm wearing a bridesmaid dress as my wedding dress. It is very similar to pic 2 and 3 and it was only $89.00 Smiley smile I'm on a budget and the ones you have posted above are very nice.

I discovered that AA can order the dress to match my height and my shoes, so no alterations or bustle needed, which will cut down on costs considerably, and I really think the bridesmaid's version of the wedding gown is just as beautiful. Another plus to this is that I can order JB versions of this dress for my JB and FG to match me (which is what my nieces wanted and I was afraid I couldn't accommodate their requests). I am so excited! I would rather spend the money I’m gonna save on this dress on either the honeymoon or the ceremony.

    Yay! *does her happy dance*

My sis did it for her wedding. It was on the beach and very appropriate. I didn't know it was a BM dress until she told me.

I'm so glad to hear that other brides are doing this. I don't think anyone will realize it's a bridesmaid's dress considering the way it's made. It really looks like a chapel trained gown. Smiley smile

"a rose called by any other name would smell as sweet!"- not word for word Shakespeare..... no matter the title they give it bridesmaid or bridal! If the gown is "THE ONE" then get it girl!

@Kristina the first dress is my wedding dress, I want. Except with red.

But I am also looing into getting a bridesmad dress. Since my venue doesnt have a place for me to change into another dress like I wanted to.

I'm having trouble actually finding it on the website, but I have a catalog in front of me...look up style # 6546, it's similar to your original choice, but like $150 instead of normal price!

No one will know what the dress is "labeled" as unless you tell them. Just go with the one that make you feel beautiful!
