Bridesmaid-dresses they can ACTUALLY wear again?

pheonyx, on August 13, 2017 at 5:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 42

I'm having a whimsical outdoor wedding, and I'm looking for bridesmaid-dresses that the girls won't have to spend an arm and leg on just for it to end up in the back of the closet. I'm okay with the colors or styles being mismatched as long as they complement each other, but all the places I've found the dresses are over $100 and very obviously for a wedding. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to shop?

Realistically people won't wear their dresses again unless you let them wear literally whatever they want/is already in their closet. Just focus on dresses that they feel comfortable in and are within their budget.

For my wife and I's Renaissance themed wedding we welcomed the bridal party to wear what they wanted and we provided them each with a pair of bracers by Medieval Reflections (on etsy) in our wedding colors.

If you really want them to be something that will get worn again, and you don't care about matching, just give parameters and let people pick their own dresses.

Modcloth, Unique Vintage, Dillard's and Macy's. You can find coordinating dresses that aren't labeled "bridesmaids" dresses.

Avoid the label of bridesmaid and the dresses are significantly cheaper.

Show Me Your Mumu dresses are a little higher than your price point but are very likely to be worn again!

All of my bridesmaids got theirs on eShakti.com no one paid over $60. You have the option to customize the neckline the hem and sleeves on each dress for $10 extra. And also the option so custom order to for instead of picking size! I'm having an outdoor wedding also! Good luck!

My girls did these dresses from Macy's. $75 each. There are a bunch of color options. I may be delusional but I feel like they could wear these again at a wedding as a guest and it wouldn't scream bridesmaid dress. Eta: these are Adriana pappell dresses.

I think it's a bit over $100, but this is what my girls are doing. I was okay with them being mismatched but they all happened to love the outfit so we are doing it. They are going to buy their own top because $75 for a white camy is ridiculous so they will be slightly mismatched but they will all have a grey skirt (tbd) and all of the girls said they'd wear the skirt again and it would be cute as a short skirt too. We are planning to order them from Revelry. I think the website is shoprevelry.com and it's the Skylar skirt. Edit: pic is from Revelry's website

Thank you all so much for the suggestions! I have a lot of online browsing to do lol I'm ok with them being $100ish as long as they're good quality and they really like them (like modcloth maxi dresses or the pics you guys have shared), and I actually want to steer clear or anything that looks like a bridesmaid dress. You guys rock!

If you don't want anything that looks like a bridesmaid dress, and don't care about being matchy, I'd suggest just giving them a length and a color and letting them pick out their own.

For the record, my sister got a dress for my first wedding that she wore for other events for years. And the dress my daughter wore at my wedding was one she had bought to be in a different wedding. So it is possible to have bridesmaids' dresses that get worn more than once. It's just unlikely if the bride is the one picking them out.

Darker colors are usually easier to wear again. I went with burgundy/wine but for a while I was considering black because I wanted my BMs to be able to wear the dresses again. The black really wouldn't go with our venue though.

I've worn every David's Bridal bridesmaid dress I own more than once. The long ones are very flattering and perfect for formal events.

I think you could just tell them to buy whatever dress they want and just give a couple guidelines for color/style. If they find a dress for $30 at target that fits the guidelines then mission accomplished.
