Bridesmaid dresses- Do you pay?

Mary, on May 5, 2021 at 7:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Am I supposed to pay for my bridesmaids dresses? I was always under the impression they pay their own. I have always paid my own and haven't really heard of that but my FH is saying we should pay for them and the men suits.

Unless you have the extra money and wish to cover expenses, it is the bridesmaid’s responsibility to buy her own dress, shoes and jewelry. Do the men have suits that fit your criteria? Often they will rent them if they don’t already own them.

I didn't pay for my bridesmaids' dresses. They paid for their own and I've paid for my own when I was in weddings. I bought them a gift as a thank you.

Normally bridesmaids and groomsmen pay for their own attire. You should reach out to each one individually to confirm their budget and stay within that budget.

If you’re in the US, it’s normal for bridesmaids to pay for their own dresses. I believe it’s different in Europe.
If you have the budget though it’s always nice to offer to pay.

Most people in the US have their bridesmaids pay for their dresses. That is thr cultural norm here. Some people still want to pay for their bridal party because they don't want their friends to have to pay for something they likely will only wear once.

PP have covered it but in the US it's generally the BMs' responsibility. In the UK the bride would cover it.

We will be paying for our WP’s attire. The way FH and I look at it is, we requested you to be in our wedding, and we are dictating what you are wearing, so we should be responsible for covering those costs.

It’s not common to pay for the WP but some people do. We are, the WP is just our children (all adults) and I don’t want them to incur any costs. They will be picking out my rest home one day ;-)

We're also paying for everyone's attire, for that exact reason. You took the words out of my mouth

We 100% paid for everyone's attire (we are in the US). I know it's common for the wedding party to pay but I've always hated the idea of asking people "hey, I would love to honor you as one of my nearest and dearest friends, but only if you can afford to buy a dress." I personally just think it's kind of tacky and don't understand why making them pay is a thing. I've paid for every dress i've been a BM in though and it sucks.

They pay for their own. Any wedding I've been in if the bride chooses the dress or not I've never expected them to pay. I think if u agree to be in the wedding u usually expect to pay ur way.

This is my issue too. I don't want them to pay for something they're only going to wear once...so, I gave them a colour palate and criteria of:
    * hems to NOT be above the knees
    * No Low cut necklines or backs*No BodyCons *Must have at least One strap. (I've seen some strapless nightmares!)**you're happy and could wear again.Bridesmaid dresses- Do you pay? 1
