Bridesmaid Dress Deadline

His #1 Lady, on October 6, 2014 at 3:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

Initially when we went to David's Bridal to pick the bridesmaid dresses 7 of my 11 bridesmaids attended. Of those 7, 3 of the bridesmaids ordered their dresses on the spot, and 1 of the 4 that didn't come ordered theirs the next week. So in total 4 of my bridesmaids have ordered their dresses. When we went they told us it would take 12 weeks to come back, and we should factor in the holidays and Chinese New Year since production normally halts during that time. Because of this I set a deadline of November 15th for everyone to have their dresses ordered. One of my MOH (she's out of town) called me today and said that her dress was in and could I pick it up for her. It has been exactly 5 weeks, which is way quicker than I expected for the dresses to come back. Should I give the rest of the bridesmaids a little more time to order since there was such a quick turnaround, or should I leave the deadline as is?

Leave the deadline. It allows more wiggle room if they don't get it done in time. Like with RSVP's.

I would leave personally. That way is someone is just a bit behind, it will still end up okay for you all.

I guess my main concern is those who may have trouble coming up with the money. Let me say that I asked everyone their budget ahead of time and went with the lowest budget. The dress was even under the $200 budget we agreed on. I planned to send out reminder messages at the 1 month and 2 week mark before the deadline. Do you think it's a bad idea, if at that time they don't have the money to go ahead and extend only for those who don't have it?

Leave the deadline. Something will always come up and at least one (probably 2 since you have so many) will not have ordered when you want. If they think it takes 11 weeks to get in then its best to let them think it will take that long.

Leave it. In my experience, people tend to see a deadline and then act. So yeah, wiggle room will be nice and hopefully relieve stress.

I was told that the delivery date varies based on the color and size of the dress, so I'm just trying to make sure. I'm so nervous! I was doubting whether I should have them order so early because my wedding isn't until April. but then again I don't want to wait until the last minute.

Leave the deadline. My wedding is in December, and I set a deadline of July 31st. Several waited until the week before. But after all is said and done, they are happy because they have the dress, they were able to wait to have alterations done until a bit after, and weren't worried about it anymore. If there is something that comes up for any of your girls at the deadline you set then at least you or her won't be stressed out about it and you can extend the deadline without issue. If that happens close to the real deadline, it won't be that easy.

Leave the deadline. I had varying arrival dates that made me panic. My MOH got hers first (about 2 months ago) but she also ordered hers the latest. I had a bridesmaid who ordered hers first (In February) and got it maybe two weeks ago. So you never know. I'd just leave it

That is so true Laura. The other issue I think is that some are waiting "to lose weight." I told them to just order the size they are now and gets alterations if need be later. Everyone is talking about losing weight for my wedding IDK why lol

David's Bridal staff *always* tells you that you need months and months to order and it is never true. They are sales people and they try to instill a sense of urgency to get you to buy the dresses and make it seem as though you *may* not get them if you don't order 6 months in advance. I have seen this same story over and over again.

And then you order and amazingly, DB bridesmaid dresses show up within 6 weeks - often LESS than that. Same with wedding dresses. They actually don't need to order by November for your wedding. They CAN take more time.

I felt that way too, until I looked at the screen while the consultant was entering the info. I guess they can only quote what the system tells them. I even have a friend that works at one location, and one of my bridesmaid's sister works at another location. They both just quoted me what their system told them. I guess they don't want to say a certain amount of time and we bank on that and don't have it back on time.

Sure, their "system" can tell the consultants a super long lead time. It doesn't mean it's based in reality. Of course they don't want to make promises they can't keep, but I find it misleading when their dresses almost always come in just a few weeks.

Ok that makes me feel a little better. I was so concerned about them taking 3 months that I was almost rushing everyone to order. It made me feel badly. Like I told my bridesmaids I understand everyone has a life outside of my wedding, and I didn't want them to feel as though I was asking them to put my wedding above their personal obligations.

What happens if they miss the deadline? They get cut? OMG.

I wouldn't worry about it. I got my BM dresses at David's Bridal and they arrived to my girls within the week plus there is still 6 months to go until your wedding. There is time.

My wedding is a week after yours and i am setting my deadline around december late or first week of january. I think they will be ok to order then and that way they have some time. I think your deadline is fine. I have 7 less bridesmaids than you so ithink with my 4, my deadline is easier

    Definitely leave the deadline.

Chinese New Year is February is 2/19 this year. It's a 10 day holiday, and factories tend to close about a week before. So that is definitely something to think about.

My only question is why did the shop order the dresses at different times? Generally shops like to order dresses all at once to ensure the fabric is from the same dye lot.

My BM are getting their dresses from DB, too. I've only had one order so far, but it came in in about a month. I'm leaving my deadline at November 1st, but I'm not going to freak out if anyone is late. I just want the girls to get their dresses in with plenty of time for alterations.

Worst case scenario, they can order the gowns online and they will be delivered to their address within 2 weeks... So the same dress they say takes 3months takes 2 weeks and you don't have to go to the store

Chinese New Year is something to factor in for sure. All production is halted for potentially a few weeks. We were waiting on some shipments at my work earlier this year and they were hugely delayed due to Chinese New Year. I would leave the deadline as is for now. Some people need a deadline to be motivated.
