Hey all,

I'm having some trouble as one of my bridesmaids don't want to wear the shoe I picked out. All the others have agreed to order it and I want everyone to have the same shoe for my wedding. Any suggestions? This is stressing me out. Aren't bridesmaids supposed to follow what you want for your wedding anyway? Ie. BM dresses, shoes, hair, makeup, etc. I am paying to hair and makeup if anyone wanted to know.

Thanks!

That would be fine Stefanie if they weren't 5 inch heels and 80 dollars. 80 dollars is a lot of money to spend on a shoe you will wear for just an hour, a couple actually if you count all the picture taking time. and again for someone not used to or able to wear heels that high, those couple hours will feel like an eternity of discomfort and awkwardness.

Personally, I think it is always best to choose the color of the shoe, but let the BM's select their own style. As others have said, she may not wear heels, or perhaps her feet are wider than the shoe. It also could be the cost.

I would let her select her own style and have it in the same color as the others.

I have to agree with the majority--those are high for someone who isn't used to heels. I could wear them but wouldn't ask anyone else too. As far as BM's supposed to do what you want...yes, within reason. They are your friends, not slaves to do your bidding. Smiley smile

I would shoot for a compromise. Go with nude, same style but let her get a shorter heel. You don't want her to fall down the aisle, cause if she does, then that's all anyone will talk about the rest of the night. And wouldn't you rather them talk about how great the ceremony was and how pretty you looked...not how the BM fell over her shoes and hurt herself!

I'm going to sound like a broken record but I agree with most everyone else. I would never wear them and they are expensive. Even if someone asked me to wear them and was paying for them, I think I would say no. There would be a 100% chance I'd break my ankle wearing them. PERSONALLY, I think it's a little controlling to tell your bridesmaids what shoe to wear. I think telling them to stick to a certain color should be about as far as you go. As others mentioned, people have different feet and it's unlikely the same shoe is going to fit everyone. I'd back down if I were you. Pick your battles. Is it going to ruin your wedding if she doesn't wear this exact shoe?

I was a bridesmaid in my cousins wedding last summer. Our dresses were short and we were all forced to wear the same shoe. The heel was really high and the shoes were pretty hard to break in ahead of time. I wear heels all the time, I was in a sorority and would party in them like it was nothing. Every second we would get we would take these off even if it was just for a second. Just be forewarned that if she isnt comfortable with them she will be looking for every chance to take them off, which for us often resulted in a delay for pics, and entrances because everyone had to put their shoes back on! I had bruises on my feet for like 2 weeks from them things not to mention blisters! Smh never again!

@ Stefanie, I agree-- Beauty is pain and its only for an hour or so and if the Bride wants it, she should have it also they can get the heel cut done 1". Just some other options Suzana...

Honestly I would be concerned even if she didn't fall she will look very awkward walking in them. I see it everyday in NYC - young girls wearing sky high heels they aren't used to and just look silly.

The style is very common, she should be able to find the similar shoe with a lower heel height. Hayley C has already shown you a few options.

ETA: not accusing the OP but telling a BM they can be a guest all because they won't wear the exact shoe you want... Sorry sounds like someone needs some perspective on WHY you have bridesmaids.

Honestly, some people just CANNOT wear heels.... me being one of those people. I am already 5'11" tall. I do not need another almost 6 inches added on. Not to mention, I have a wider foot and I'm pretty sure those heels like that do not come in wide. I understand where your BM is coming from. They do look uncomfortable and they are expensive. If you want her to wear them, then you need to pay for them. But as I said before, if you're not used to wearing flats... that shoe could very well be your downfall... literally.....

Agreed Carrie, people that would say that to someone that you want to stand up with you on your wedding day is in serious need of some adjustment. Your bridesmaids are your FRIENDS not your barbie dolls.. if you want to play dress up do it with yourself. Jeez

Sorry I would never wear that shoe. way too high.

sure they are hott, but there is nothing hott about a BM taking a tumble down the aisle right before you walk out..

I agree with everyone else. I have wide feet and have had multiple foot surgeries and there is no way I would wear those and pay $80 to spend a few hours in utter misery.

Maybe ask her to only wear those during the ceremony so they will be matching when all the bridesmaids are together in the photos? I can see how they would be uncomfortable to stand in but she could even get them a size up and wear something cushioney inside, they have shoe pads made specifically for heels now a days so there is no reason she can't tough it our for one special day for you.

Ok, I have to jump in here - I physically can't wear shoes like that (lots of foot problems, not to mention I have a pretty unusual size and I'd likely fall in them). If I were told "wear these or else", I'd be heartbroken and probably not want to be your friend anymore. It would make me feel unimportant to you as a friend, and frankly, I'd think you felt looks were more important than an actual friendship.

That way of thinking makes people think that you only see your BMs as accessories to your wedding, when they should be friends who you love and want to support you on your day and throughout your marriage.

If she has logical reasons for not being able to wear those shoes, then I think a compromise is in order. Yes, we can all suck up uncomfortable shoes for a little while, but there's a difference between not wanting to wear them and not being able to. Those shoes are really cute, but just b/c I like them doesn't mean I can wear them.

I would never be able to wear that. I think your BM has a right to have an issue with it. I found a heel for my girls that they all feel comfortable in. I would look into those shoes that Hayley posted.

Susana - What other things are you going to request they must do and must pay for since you're the bride?

If you want the brides in the same shoe, request them all get Nude Peep Toes. I guarantee on YOUR big day, when it's finally all about YOU, NO ONE, and I mean NONE of your guests will notice what shoes the bridesmaids are wearing.
