Bridal Party Hair: All same or different?

Pancakes, on June 12, 2015 at 9:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 56

I am paying to have my 3 girls get their hair and makeup done and we are having it done at my MOH's house. Are people telling them to get any style they want? Specifying that it should be up/down? I've only had experience being a bridesmaid for my oldest sister's wedding back in the day. She told us how to do our hair, we had to pay for it ourselves and she said we can go to any salon we want except the salon she was going to that morning. I don't want to be that strict with my girls and was thinking of telling them to do their hair however they want. Up. Down. Sideways. Shaved. Whatever you want. But I never consider how these things look in pictures. I just think want everyone to be happy and feel as beautiful as they are. So is it a no-no to have bridesmaids with different hair styles? I am googling this, as well, just wanted to know everyone's opinion! Thanks!

I would vote for letting them get it all done how they want. I think it's fine if you want to specify if you prefer up or down, but different hairstyles look so different on everyone--depending on how long their hair is, how thick it is, their head shape, whatever.

I'm telling my girls to get their hair down however they like. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that!

Let them do it how they want...they will be way more comfortable that way.

I told my girls to have their hair up but I don't care what style they choose.

It depends on what you want honestly. Some girls who put their girls in the same dress/same necklaces/same shoes like the same hair too.

I'm letting my girls wear their hair however they want. I've never been in a wedding where they told me how to get my hair done, and I've been a bridesmaid 3 times now.

I told my girls they could do their hair however they liked but they told me they want me to pick for them.

My only requirement was that it wasn't a full updo. Other than that I let them get what they wanted. All of them having the same hairstyle seems weird to me...I wanted them each to look a little different since they were all wearing the same dress. Plus I had girls with all different types of hair so one hairstyle wouldn't have worked on all of them anyway.

Everyone's hair behaves differently. I'd say the most you can tell them is up or down.

Thanks, guys. I will just stick with telling them to have it done however they would like. I was looking at weddings my photographer has done and she had a few with different hairstyles for the bridesmaids. They all are wearing the same dress, so it will be nice to have a different hairstyle to put their own spin on it. I'm also letting them pick their own jewelry and shoes (though they made me decide on a color because I was too laid back for them. Haha). I was even thinking of inviting them over so we can put the bouquets together and have each girl make hers slightly different (orange latex calla lilies, but they can change the color ribbon and if they want bling on theirs), but not sure if that would work. I'll have to look into that, too!

My girls all have different lengths and hair textures so I let them pick a style that will work best for their hair. The 2 with short hair are just doing soft curls and the other 2 are doing a half up, half down look with curls.

I'm letting them decide how they'd like to do it. One girl's hair is much shorter than the others' and one girl isn't getting her hair done at all.

I would say let them get different styles or maybe have them all do something similar?

I guess it's rare, but all three of my girls are pretty similar. Tall, thin and medium length blonde straight hair! But I'll just have them do whatever they want. I'm starting to think that this whole wedding will be a disaster since I'm so laid back on all of the decisions. So, we'll see if it ends up coming together!

I was in a wedding where we all had to put our hair up. I didn't care, but a couple of my BMs have super thick, heavy hair, and having it up all day gives them headaches, while others have told me they want their hair up. I'm telling them to do whatever they want - preferably not the exact same thing I'm doing with my hair (half-up, half-down with curls) but even if they did, I'll have a veil on so it won't be identical anyway haha.

Let them pick their own hair style. I hate when I'm in weddings and they makes do a "specific" look. I hate having my hair up so I would prefer to do whatever I wanted.

I'm paying for the girls to get their hair down and told them to pick out whatever style they'd like. I would prefer updos, but some girls have super short hair. It wouldn't be possible, so I didn't say a word. I don't think they'd all look as beautiful in the same updo because each girl has different hair: 1 has super tight, short, gorgeous curls; another has long, loose curls; another girl has medium length curls; 1 has poker straight, long hair. It just wouldn't look right if I told them all to do the same thing.

I liked what my friend did at her wedding. She said half up/half down and some type of braid. So she didn't say "You ALL HAVE TO BE THE SAMEEEE" but she gave some parameters for the stylist.

Specifying up or down is ok, but more than that and people may not look their best or be comfortable.

I''m not specifying anything, up or down. I want them to wear it however they like.

The thing that is puzzling me in your post is how your sister said you and her other bridesmaids could go to any salon except the one she was going to (for her wedding)... I told my girls they could go where I'm going or choose their own place or do their own hair. Ultimately I decided to book someone to come onsite and we're all getting done together. It's going to be fun!
