Bought a wedding dress and found another I like better!

npast28, on December 5, 2014 at 3:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

Has anyone experienced this dilemma. I went dress shopping 2 weeks ago with family, found a dress and after mulling it over, went back and purchased (from David's Bridal). It was a bit high pressure - the dress is "discontinued" so there were no guarantees on looking around. For 2 weeks I've had bad dreams and just don't love it. I LIKE it but it's not AMAZING. Today I went to another shop and felt all swoony about a gorgeous one for 2x the price.

I can't back out of the first one - it comes in in March but has anyone sold an unworn, unaltered dress?

This isn't he first time this has happened, do you have pictures of you in the one you bought? in some cases someone had dress regret, but the second dress wasn't really worth the change in the end. show pics then maybe we can help out better Smiley smile

There is tons of websites and Facebook groups that you can sell the first dress on. There is a WW Bride-2-Bride group that is for selling/trading. I would definitely go with the second one if you like it that much better. Do you have pictures?

Can you have them add a lace back onto the dress you bought? They looks so similar otherwise.

They are very similar!! I would be happy with the one you ordered, especially if the second one is twice the price!

Jus have them add lace to the back, they look like almost the same dress. I like the first, but would love the back of the second! They can add

I had to do a double take they were so similar! I do see the major difference in the back with the lace though. I would definitely see if they could add it in. Even if they say no, its tough to argue one detail being worth paying twice the price unless a lace back is a top priority.

Even if you can sell the first one, you'll be lucky to get back even half of what you paid for it. I'd see if you can get the back on the first one altered instead of buying a whole new dress.

Argh! Showed the pictures with my group of girlfriends who HATED dress #1 and didn't like #2. This is so frustrating!

Both dresses are gorgeous but I really like the first one best. I think it really flatters your figure.

Get the dress YOU want! Also, I can tell a big difference between dress one and two because of the fit! The quality of number two shines in dress two! You look beautiful! I would recommend looking online at recyclebride to sell dress number one.

They seem very close in style Smiley smile I think that #1 looks better on you, and is more flattering.

I have to be totally honest. You have a rockin bod and i don't think either dress does it justice. Are you able to take your time with the search?

Thank you, ladies! The original dress (#1) doesn't come in until March and our wedding is not until Fall so I do have time to look before I make a second impulsive decision. Truthfully, I feel SO MUCH saner knowing that I could try to sell dress #1 if I'm really not thrilled with it.

All but 2 friends thought it looked like I was "wrapped in a curtain"; granted they aren't wearing it so it's just an opinion but it made me think again about style. I do believe my main reason for loving dress #2 is because the sample FIT whereas with #1, it was clipped in so to really tell, I need to wait 4 months til the real one comes in.

Has anyone dealt with DB for alterations? I've heard horror stories!

First, I vote for #1 A. Because it looks better on you and B. Because it's MY dress and I love it. LOL.

FYI, it only took 3 weeks for mine to come in.

I've having a similar dilemma...I bought a dress on impulse and now I'm wishing I had shopped around a little more. My dress should be coming in soon; I'm waiting to make a decision until it comes in and I can try it on again. What I'm probably going to do is just make alterations/add-ons to the dress I bought to make it what I want.

The first one looks lovely on you! And they are both very similar, it'll probably be less headache and more cost effective to make changes to the one you've already bought than buying a new one and trying to sell the old.

Update...called David's Bridal and explained that I was having regrets. Met with a new consultant and have 2 new dress picks - they will allow me to exchange the purchased dress for different one! Now I just need to choose. Feel sooo much better about it. The new dresses are both strapless with sweetheart necklines. See attached!
