Booking a venue... 3 years in advance

Breanna , on July 16, 2013 at 2:23 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

So, in August, FH and I are going to go look at a potential venue (one I have fallen in love with from the photos online and videos they have.) My thing is, if I love it, do I book it now to get the rate? It is so early that I don't want the rate of $2,000 to go up too much, but at the same token don't want to put $1,000 down on something I might not want later.

Is it too soon to book something like this?

Tough call! Do you know how fast they usually book and how often their rates go up?

I booked mine almost 2 years in advance because that's how early they book up where I'm getting married - I would have missed out on it completely if I waited much longer.

I wouldn't do it yet purely so the rates don't go up. If you're not worried about someone taking your date, wait on it in case you change your mind. Losing the deposit might cost more than the increase in rates.

I don't think you have to wait 2 years though. If in 6 months to a year you're still in love with it and haven't found anything else that compares, you probably aren't going to change your mind.

Hmm, some venues don't book that far in advance. Do you know if the deposit would be refundable??

    I agree with Alejandra.

Take the summer, visit some other venues, ask for Prices and Info. Sit down and and think about benefits and contras... If you still want it, it will be still ther in November. I would say, take the time now to see the options and enjoy it!

Visit many venues before booking anything. You never know what you'll stumble upon!

I would definitely hold off. Make sure you actually visit several venues in person. What something looks like in a photo doesn't necessarily mean that's what it looks like in real life. I found that to be the case when FH and I went looking. Also, since you're so early in the planning stages you could change your mind completely about the style of your wedding and the venue you once loved may not be the perfect match for your new vision. I would until you were at the 2-1 1/2 year mark before booking anything.

It's way too soon to actually put money down.

If you're in love with the venue and sure you won't change your mind.. Book it! I suppose it depends on the area you're located but I had to book mine two yrs out because that how far out they were booking! I couldn't believe it. The original plan was to try to get married last year. But this was the venue we wanted and we had been engaged awhile already anyway so we figured what's another year to get the venue we want. Plus extra time to save money.

You're going to have to check their policy and see if they'll even let you book that far in advance. Our venue normally doesn't allow booking more than a year in advance. We got lucky and they let us sign early. However, that was only after doing a ridiculous amount of research, price comparisons and visiting 3 venues.

I tend to agree with Amanda that it was way too soon to put money down. Can you start/continue to save money? Absolutely! Don't lock yourself into something this early though.

In addition to all the things the other brides mentioned: Due to unforeseen issues - long story - we had to change our venue. Dangerous to book too early and risk loosing a deposit.

So I dunno why I thought your post said 2 yrs .. 3 yrs is a bit early. But again.. It just depends on the situation. For me and FH three yrs wouldn't have been an issue. We knew we were in love with the venue and that we would be staying in the area, so.. I'd just be absolutely sure it's what u want

Hold off. It's way too early. You don't know if the management will change, the pricing will be different, the offerings will be different. Even I won't book that far in advance.

We booked ours 2 years in advance. Mainly because of how popular our venue is and it books up very quickly.

Depending on the venue and how fast they book, how often they increase rental rates... It's a tough call. Three years is a long time tho.

Thanks for all the advice ladies. I have emailed the owner a few times and she said that she doubts it will fill up, as she has only had her estate as a venue for a short while and it isn't well known. She is fine with me booking this early, and she says she is sure the rates will increase but isn't comfortable giving me an estimated price closer to my wedding, which is fine.

I will definitely take the next year to look at several venues, I just wasn't sure if I should put away the deposit money now. But it's a good point, I doubt it is going to go up much by next summer, fingers crossed!

    Thanks again ladies Smiley smile
