Booking a venue... 3 years in advance

So, in August, FH and I are going to go look at a potential venue (one I have fallen in love with from the photos online and videos they have.) My thing is, if I love it, do I book it now to get the rate? It is so early that I don't want the rate of $2,000 to go up too much, but at the same token...

It is so early that I don't want the rate of $2,000 to go up too much, but at the same token don't want to put $1,000 down on something I might not want later.

Is it too soon to book something like this?

I booked my venue in Jan 2012 for my Sept 2013 wedding. We checked out A LOT of venues before hand and this was hands down the best...but definitely not 3 years out. Who knows, a new place could be built...or you may change your mind.

I would say its way to far out to book, hold off. But if your heart is set on it, in the contract, ensure you put a cancellation clause in there so you can get your deposit back. Example, if Bride decides to cancel venue within 1 year of the date, no penalty will incur, etc.

Some places have no problem since it is so far away and they can easily recoup that booking.

My venue will only book 18 months in advance. Id suggest holding off, in case the venue goes under and you loose your deposit, or it gets taken over by someone else and its a totally different place...
