So yesterday we went BM dress shopping. I had told the girls that they could choose the dress that they liked as long as it was black with some sort of sleeves or straps. Only my sister (MOH) and my SIL who is a BM found a dress but I feel that it is not appropriate for my wedding. I made this clear to her but when I went out for 5 minutes to meet up with another BM that had just arrived I saw that she had already purchased it and there are no returns or refunds. I'm not sure what to do or how to tell her to fix the dress. Any tips ladies?

I really liked the dress on her, but it was a little too sexy, boobies all the way up and tons of leg showing, which is why it is not appropriate and why I told her it wasn't. I know we can get someone to sew the slit down a little but not too much or she might trip. not sure what else we can do to make it appropriate.

This is is a picture of the dress

I wouldnt have a problem with that, its not like anyone is going to see her leg when she is standing at the altar. You can have some sleeves or straps sewn on though if it really bothers you. Im sure it wouldnt be more than maybe $100 for that

You could add tulle or organza in that leg slit to make it show less skin, but since she purchased it before you told her it was not a good choice I think it would be fair for you to pay her alterations.

See how this one has lace layer inside to make it less revealing? You could do this with tulle, lace, organza layers inside, which would be removed later if she wanted to wear it for some other ocassion. http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/625476551/Long_Chiffon_Ruffled_Lace_Front_Slit.html

Straps are easy to add, and could be made to match the ruffle underlay.

*Also, you could DIY sew the slit a little so it is not as high up on the thigh, a simple basting stitch would do the trick and would come out easily later on.

Whatever you do...do not suggest a pashima.

Oh no! I am soooo sorry you are having to put up with this! Smiley sad I do love the idea of putting organza, tulle or some other fabric in the slit! I would tell her that since she can't listen to me and its MY wedding that I would prefer she not be in it. Sorry! Smiley sad

I talked to her and I will be taking her to get the slit sewn up (or down... whatever same thing). But I feel like she doesn't want to add sleeves, but I will try to talk to her again, if she refuses then I'm sorry but that's it and I don't want to have this stress me out more.

lol. Diane M. I didn't want to be rude, but I also hate the way that looks!

Thank you BunBuns! I love the dress too, my sister is so glad she will be the only one wearing red.

I like the pashmina idea and was about to suggest it as well! I do think the dress is ok for the reception, but that's just me. Definitely sew the slit up. I would make it at least to knee length.

If she doesn't want to do sleeves, you can do the pashmina idea without the...fullness of the photo. Think more of your grandmother or mother's lacey beaded shawls they wore when they went to a fancy restaurant. Here's a couple of nice black ideas, from Macys. When you walk in, there's always a huge section with wraps in tons of styles. They'd give you the coverage you need without adding weight or heat, and they could be worn all night.
