Blood On Dress - Need Reassurance!

Kelsey, on May 29, 2020 at 2:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Such a stupid move... yesterday, while getting my dress altered, I accidentally pricked my finger AND got blood right on the front of my silk dress. It is very small BUT noticeable because the front of the dress is very simple and it is right on my left boob! I left it with her, after all, it is all pinned up and needs to be altered. I called the dry cleaners today, they were not super reassuring. They said they would have to re-clean the entire dress (I bought a sample dress, so I have already had it cleaned once), which is honestly FINE, really, that part is fine, but I just need to hear from anyone else who might have had this happen... were you able to get the blood stain out? The spot is probably no bigger than a dot you would make with a ball point pen, its just in a very conspicuous location on a very simple dress. The dress is 92% silk and 8% spandex if that helps at all.

TIA! I'm just freaking out and there isn't anything else I can do but hope someone else has had a positive experience with a similar situation.

I got food on my dress at my wedding and I used club soda to get it. The second I noticed it one of the ladies from our venue bought me the club soda so stain didn't sit there for long. However, blood is very difficult to remove from clothing so I can't lie and say that it will come out.

My seamstress pricked herself with a pin during one of my fittings and bled on my dress. She immediately used alcohol and it came right out.

Interesting... The lady who is doing my alterations did try to get it out for me after I left but said she couldn't. I think she was more worried about doing additional damage, which I totally get. I feel like it should be possible to at least diminish the stain to the point that it isn't bright or noticable. I'm not the most persnickity person, honestly, it doesn't have to be perfect for me to be happy. Just... not bright red on my boob, ya know?

I'm glad to hear she was able to get it out! I do hope I have the same result.

I have always used hydrogen peroxide to get blood stains out. I don’t know if this works on silk but maybe worth looking into.

Salt and dawn dish soap is the best way I know to get blood out of clothes but I’d think a pro dress cleaner should have all the tricks?

IF the stain doesn't come out, I don't think it'd be visible in photos
