Just curious-is it wrong to wear a black dress to a wedding? I noticed in another thread that people said it was a no no, but every wedding that I have been to I have seen girls wear black dresses...including me. Are you not suppose to wear them because you wear black to a funeral? I have never...

Are you not suppose to wear them because you wear black to a funeral? I have never heard of this before so I was just wondering what is "proper."

Bri: I really don't think anybody is going to think much of it. As all the posters above have noted, it's pretty common to see people in black dresses as evening wear!

I think that's a really old, outdated rule. Kinda like not wearing white after labor day, who follows that anymore? I've never been to a wedding where MOST of the women were wearing black dresses. Black is simple and elegant and doesn't compete for the attention in photos...I think it's fine

I figured it was an outdated rule. I usually do wear black to friends weddings.

I wanted our mothers to wear black and heard nothing but bad comments about this. From family, friends and even dress places. FH and I get along great with our mothers and FMILS. I guess if the mothers wear black it means they wish bad luck on the marriage. Needless to say once the mothers heard that ...they refuse to wear black lol.

I think it's fine to wear black to a wedding as long as it is a classy or fun looking dress. As long as it doesn't look like it is a sad funeral dress than go for it. I typically like to wear shades or green, brown or blue to a wedding as I fine them to be more cheery friendly colors but I see nothing wrong with black if that is what you want to wear.

Im sure times have changed but I've always heard you don't wear black to a wedding. its for funerals. that being said, I have unfortunatly worn black to a wedding a couple times.

I just know my grandma will make remarks about people wearing black and/or white at my wedding. Oh well, it's MY wedding and she can just deal with it! Maybe I should warn her so that I won't hear about it on my wedding day.
