Beverages

Anonymous, on June 26, 2012 at 12:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 12

Hi, first time poster here!

I need some help. I’m having a cake and punch reception and was thinking about serving lemonade, punch, and water as beverage choices. These beverages will serve about 80 ppl if my calculations are correct.

How many gallons do I need? The water will be provided in water bottles but I’m not sure how many gallons of the lemonade and punch I should provide. I’ve seen all kinds of answers on the net, so that wasn't helpful.

Also any places you can recommend for a decent priced beverage dispenser. I haven’t found anything I liked on the internet that was worth the price. I’m not sure I’ll be using them often after the wedding. Thanks!

    Welcome to WW Lisa ~

Punch: Figure 10 people to the gallon-- pretty good mileage. That's a conservative estimate, assuming your guests will drink about three 4-ounce servings during the party.

    PUNCH

Plan for about 2 cups of punch per person

Standard glass punch cups hold 6.5 ounces (may also be used for coffee)

Standard Punch Bowls hold 2.5 gallons (50 servings)

    ICED TEA

5 gallons of iced tea serves 80 people when using 16 oz. glasses with ice

One gallon = 128 ounces (approximately 16 servings per gallon)

    COFFEE

One pound of coffee equals 4 and a half cups of ground coffee

To serve 30 cups of coffee, use 2 cups of ground coffee

To serve 50 cups of coffee, use 3 and one quarter cups of ground coffee

To serve 100 cups of coffee, use six and one half cups of ground coffee

It takes approximately half an hour to brew coffee in a 50 cup urn

It takes approximately one hour to brew coffee in a 100 cup urn

Check costco, sam's club, kohls, target for containers?

Call and find out how much to rent from a catering place?

    ~ good luck ~

My local Marshalls had some of the nice Beverage Dispensers when I went on Sunday. I know something like that varies by store but I'd check your local Marshalls or TJ Maxx if you have one nearby. You might get lucky and they'll have them also. They also had all different color paper lanterns (My wedding is still too far out to buy those but I'm using those as decor)

Welcome! Walmart has some nice dispensers. They are $20 each.

They have nicer ones but they cost more.

Not sure where you're located, but we bought some nice glass ones for $25 each from Meijer (supermarket in the midwestern us). We've used them a few times for my bridal shower, our wedding, and my mom's 50th birthday party. They're so much classier than the plastic ones that people use at sporting events.

Thanks everyone! I do have a those stores in the area. I know what I'll be checking out this weekend. Thanks! I tried changing my avatar but since I have a slideshow for my website, the picture I choose is on there. I didn't really want to put our real pictures up though :/

You don't need to put up a real picture. You can put a flower, a bird, a rock... anything so we can remember you if you wish to come back again and get more tips and ideas.

    Congrats, and good luck shopping!
