So my fiance's sister happens to be his best friend. I've known of this the entire duration of our two plus year relationship. However in recent weeks and in our discussions of marriage and marital plans she has referenced herself on more than one occasion as the best woman. At first I kind of laughed it off thinking it was just something she was saying to be funny. But now that she said it a number of times and he has also made reference to it I'm beginning to think that they really believe that this is somehow appropriate. I totally disagree with the idea of another woman other than myself standing next to my future husband calling herself the best woman at my wedding. I really don't care that it's his sister, I just think that it's beyond outrageous to have another woman at your ceremony standing at the altar next to the groom calling herself the "best woman". Am I overreacting or is it really just that ridiculous that she could think that she should also be standing beside my man?

You are overreacting. I have men on my side and he has his sister on his. It's about having those closest to you standing by you while you go through one of the most important ceremonies of your life. So if that's his sister, it's completely understandable.

We had my two children as our attendants. Son was "dude of honor." We still ended up married, amazingly enough.

As for, "He agrees that for this day his bride gets what she wants.": And the groom doesn't get what he wants? Are you the only one getting married, and he's just a spectator?

My brother in law is going to be in my bridal party. I see nothing wrong with her being his "best woman." How on earth can you be jealous of his sister....insecure much?!

Yuck!! It's not your day! You are not a queen or a princess. I really hope your FH knows what he is getting into. I highly doubt this entitled attitude is only wedding related.

    Elphaba you crack me up.

OP sounds like you wanted validation for your overreaction and you wont get it here. My FH's best friend in the entire world is another girl. She'll be standing on his side at OUR wedding. Because she is important to him and thats how it should be. If your FH wants his sister to stand on his side then thats how it should be.

Definitely overreacting. It's his sister. You KNEW they are close getting into the relationship. If you say anything, it's likely to be a shitstorm..if you HAVE to say anything, you should probably offer a spot as a BM..

I, personally, don't see anything wrong with his sister being "best woman"...

Wow... insecure much? It's his sister?!? There's plenty of women that have their brothers as their man of honor. You are completely overreacting.

It's his sister?! My cousin was a 'grooms woman' at her MALE friends wedding. No big deal.

Its not like shes interested in him. Get over it.

I think you are overreacting. How is it any different than a guy standing next to him as a best man? Because she's a woman? Why would a woman bother you? The only reason a woman should bother you is if you think she is competition for you. And she's his SISTER. I don't think she is going to steal your husband. I think it's nice that he is that close with his sister.

I don't get why you are threatened by his sibling. Are you going to freak out when he does the mother son dance because another woman is dancing with your man?
