So my fiance's sister happens to be his best friend. I've known of this the entire duration of our two plus year relationship. However in recent weeks and in our discussions of marriage and marital plans she has referenced herself on more than one occasion as the best woman. At first I kind of laughed it off thinking it was just something she was saying to be funny. But now that she said it a number of times and he has also made reference to it I'm beginning to think that they really believe that this is somehow appropriate. I totally disagree with the idea of another woman other than myself standing next to my future husband calling herself the best woman at my wedding. I really don't care that it's his sister, I just think that it's beyond outrageous to have another woman at your ceremony standing at the altar next to the groom calling herself the "best woman". Am I overreacting or is it really just that ridiculous that she could think that she should also be standing beside my man?

    Read through all the comments and tbh if I was your man, I would leave you for that attitude. He's just as much in charge of the day as you are. YOU don't pick who HE wants beside him. HE doesn't pick who stands with YOU. And tbh if you are acting like this about his sister wanting to stand with him but going to 'let' her be a bridesmaid, that is a HUGE insult to her because clearly you don't like her and you don't respect her at all because you would understand that she wants to be with her brother. Saying "I don't want you standing with MY man but you can stand with me instead." If I was in her shoes and you offered that, I'd want to slap you right across your face.

    It is not your day, your way.

    It's his wedding too.

    He is a human being.

    He has friends

    Friends don't have to be the same gender as you.

    Get off your stupid high horse. This clearly has nothing to do with tradition and everything to do with you being insecure about your relationship and the appearance of your wedding, and a control freak. No one is gonna care if he's got a woman standing beside him. No one is gonna care if she's not wearing a dress.

    No, I totally understand where you're coming from. What if his penis gets confused and thinks he's marrying her? You would have incest children by proxy, with very small heads. Very small. Totally unacceptable.

    Any other objections to your FH having his sister and best friend by his side on his wedding day are just as ridiculous as this one, by the way.

    Unless he's also fucking his sister, this is in no way inappropriate.

    @Elphaba

    I have been totally distracted from the OP's ridiculousness by the idea of Cersei Lannister in a BM tux and suspenders. Yum.

    Your FH literally came out of another woman's vagina. I'm sure that bothers you since it wasn't yours and, in your crazy mind, he had relations with another woman. I really, really think you need a puppy and a psychiatrist.

    Wow. Wowww. I had a man of honor. He's my best friend, so yeah he stood right next to me and my photos are absolutely fabulous. If my DH had wanted his sisters to stand next to him, I would have been all for it. It's 2017. You're doing her a favor by not 'letting' her be part of his side, ain't no one got time for this closed minded negativity nonsense.

    Even if it wasn't his sister, what does it matter? He's marrying you... This kind of seems to me like you might have trust issues and should probably seek counseling with your FH.

    Frankly, my FH is having his sister stand for him and I couldn't be happier, she has been his best friend throughout his entire life and I couldn't imagine anyone else standing for him. To go further, my best guy friend will be my man of honor, FH is thrilled with this decision because he's been there throughout a lot for me and I couldn't imagine marrying FH without him there.

    We have trust in our relationship and therefore, have no issue or concerns over this... Seriously, seek counseling.

    Do you rage with fury and fiery dismay knowing that FH will be standing next to mother/grandmother/sister for wedding photos? I mean, you sure can't trust your man with ANYONE. Not even mama. Nope. Not on YOUR day.. *Eye roll*.
