Best Moment Of Wedding Day (or Wedding Planning)?

Lisa, on August 27, 2020 at 10:45 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 28
Since it's been a rough week, and I love hearing about all things wedding, I'd love to hear something positive and read about your fun/funny/cute/favorite memories from your wedding (or wedding planning, if your wedding hasn't occured yet)! What is your favorite story to share?

For me, since my wedding hasn't occured yet, my fiance and I both agree that our favorite memory so far is the food tasting at our venue! We are doing a semi-destination wedding in our state, and traveled to the area for a weekend earlier this year. We took the opportunity to have a date night during winter, and we got to taste different entrees, appetizers, and beverages. We had a beautiful view of the water from our table, and it ended up being a fantastic weekend for us to spend together at our venue. Here is a picture from the view that we had.

I think mine was our first dance! I just felt like we were all alone in our own bubble even though we were in a room filled with people.

That is so cool to hear about! I can imagine that having that moment alone (even if it is in a room full of people) is so cherished. Thank you for sharing!

    I have a couple, I'll call them Pre-COVID and Post-COVID lol.

Pre-COVID, my favorite memory was doing our engagement photo session. We are both extremely awkward human beings and thought this would be a strange experience to pose in front of a person we didn't know. We did it on a beach in February, right before and during sunset. We were okay without coats for a bit but really wanted that cotton candy sky, so we sucked it up for another 30 minutes while the sun went down and kept telling jokes to each other to make ourselves laugh and have those natural smiles while also freezing our butts off by the water, and it ended up being a really nice 1.5 hours. Went and got hotpot for dinner afterwards to warm up haha. It was an adventure.

Post-COVID, I think my favorite memories were doing wedding things with my bridesmaids. I had been feeling pretty down about having to postpone the big wedding to next year, but my FH and I still intended to get married this year. I was feeling upset and worried that the minimony wouldn't be as magical though. My bridesmaids came over and we did our DIY bouquets and drank champagne and watched rom-coms, which really helped me feel like we were planning towards something. Then we all did a hair/makeup trial together, and I got to try on my dress for the first time since it arrived, and it made me feel bridal again. They really helped to lift my spirits and feel better about planning a minimony and a big wedding.

Your pre-COVID memory totally just changed my mind on what my favorite memory is for my wedding planning experience!! Our engagement pictures were also one of my favorite memories of wedding planning so far, we had an absolute blast taking our pictures. Winter pictures sound so fun to take, glad you were able to keep each other laughing to take your minds off the cold weather! Sounds like it was a great evening for you all.

I also love that you were able to spend quality time with your bridesmaids and get some excitement back for your wedding! Are you using the DIY bouquets for your minimony or for your larger ceremony? Girls nights are such great spirit lifters. Both your minimony and your big wedding will be beautiful!

I'm not sure I *remember* this per se, but it's in our wedding video. (Not that I don't remember the ceremony, just that this moment was very emotional, so it's kinda blurry in my head.)

Our officiant said we could kiss, and, uh, I apparently launched myself at DH? Like, full on, he had to catch me, and I flung my arms around him, and we kissed twice.

The part I remember best and love to bits was the whole swordfight we did with a lot of our friends. That was just FUN.

Reading aloud the personal hand written vows to each other. To know and to hear how he feels about me, was so sentimental and beautiful

My favorite part of planning was our engagement photos. Our photographer has engagement photos in all her packages and honestly it was the best thing ever! I love that we got to meet her ahead of time and get comfortable in front of the camera. I also did my hair and makeup “trial” that day so I got to meet my HAMU artist the same day, and I love her! It made me feel more confident for the wedding day. I am already comfortable around these two vendors who I’m going to be spending a lot of time with 😂
I loved taking photos and goofing off with FH. We went to the Cheesecake Factory afterwards and it was one of the best days ever!

It sounds like there was a lot of emotion in that moment! I'm glad that the video cameras captured it for you so you can always re-live it.

The sword fighting would be so fun! Was it planned ahead of time or totally spontaneous?

Aww I love this! Did you know what his vows were going to say prior to the ceremony? Or did you each keep them a secret from each other until the ceremony?

Before our minimony, my husband and I went off by ourselves in the woods to read letters we'd written to each other. Cue major laughs (and tears) when it turns out we had unknowingly written almost the exact same thing. It was definitely my favorite part of the day. I love your idea of doing the hair and makeup trial on the day of your engagement pictures! That's awesome that you were able to feel comfortable around multiple vendors before your wedding, that will make your wedding day much less stressful. Also, great choice on going to the Cheesecake Factory afterwards!

The engagement photos were definitely one of my favorite parts of the planning process as well - I have to change my mind from my original post and say that the engagement pictures were my favorite part, with venue food tasting a close second!

When I read this question, the first thing that came to mind was dress shopping back in October. I live far away from my bridesmaids and FMIL so I took my mom and the mom of one of my best male friends (male friend is in the wedding party). He's an only child so I wanted to include her in this in case she didn't get a similar opportunity down the line.

I had lost a lot of weight but still felt "chunky" and didn't know how I would feel in the dresses. I ended up having a fabulous time, my consultant was great, and almost every dress looked fantastic on me. It was just a totally wonderful experience, even though I ended up picking a dress from a different store 5 months later!

Since Covid, wedding planning has not been very enjoyable. But my bach is next weekend, and I am very much looking forward to that!

Spent more time rehearsing that skit than pretty much any part planning the wedding, lol

We had always intended to do DIY bouquets, as FH has fickle allergies so we decided to avoid that whole issue with fake flowers. Hopefully these bouquets last til next year as well!

My favorite part of planning was picking up or marriage license! I thought my favorite part of planning would have been going to bridal shows with my MOH but all the vendors always thought she was the bride and I was a bridesmaid even though I literally had a Brides shirt on and she had a maid of honor shirt on.

This is so cute!! I love that you guys were able to step away and take a few minutes to be alone together before your ceremony, and that the notes you wrote were so similar to each other. Thank you for sharing!

That's awesome that your dress shopping experience was so positive! Having a good consultant, good shopping crew, and good styles of dresses definitely help make dress shopping a happy memory. I'm sorry to hear that COVID is making planning more stressful for you! You're definitely not alone in that. Hopefully your bachelorette party will help restore that planning enjoyment. Have a great time at your bachelorette party!!
