Best friend used same 1st dance song as we picked out. WWYD?

HLW to HLV, on June 23, 2015 at 11:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 39

Our best friends just got married on Saturday. They used the song "Thinking out loud" by Ed S. that FH and I picked out. We get married in December. WWYD? Use that song or find another? I think we might use it. Only a few common friends will be guests at both weddings and who is really going to remember what song was picked among the guests...is my point of view.

That is such a popular song that people aren't going to think twice about it! If you really love it, then go ahead and use it! It's just a song Smiley smile

Do whatever feels right for the two of you regardless of someone else has done it as well.

This happened to me. FH and I went to a wedding in October and stared in shock as my good friend (and now my BM) danced her first dance with her husband to our song.

We're still oddly irrationally angry about the coincidence, but we're going to find another song we love and go with that instead.

ETA: The song is Peter Gabriel's Book of Love, which really isn't quite as common.

FH just told me his friends Mom(the friends wedding we just went to) made the comment that we just copy off of them because our oldest daughter is 3 weeks after their oldest son. Our youngest daughter was born 20 months after their youngest daughter. She says our wedding is just copying them. Yeah because I make major life decisions based on my friends decisions.

Go ahead and use the song - that dance is more for you than your guests. It should be special and meaningful to you. And the few overlapping guests will not remember a song from months before.

Who cares? Use the song. Friends mom sounds immature as hell, don't sink to her level.

Given how popular that song is, I'm not that surprised. I remember back in 2010 when several of my friends/acquaintances got married, every single one danced to "First Day of my Life" by Bright eyes. Every. Single. One.

You, her, and about a billion other people. Half of the girls I know who got married since that song came out have used it. Hell, a "bride and groom" are dancing to it IN the video.

That happened to me too with the Christina Perri song...use the song, it means something to you (and truth be told, we plan to use that as our first dance as well). No one can take away what it means to you and your FH

I've been to 4 weddings who's first dance was At Last. 4. Not once did I think someone was copying the other. Half the time I can't even remember what underwear I'm wearing. And to your FH's friends mom. Tell that woman to take up a hobby that doesn't include following your life choice patterns.

It's probably the most used first dance song of the last year. "All of Me" by John Legend is the other one. And @Emily is right. The dance is more for you two, if it was about impressing the guests the first dance wouldn't exist. Do you know how many people don't even pay attention to it? You will probably find a better song by then anyway. Good luck!

Don't give it another thought. Proceed exactly as planned. As for the comment about copying another wedding, I really don't get that stuff. Haven't people noticed that most weddings closely resemble each other? What's next -- you copied our linen colors? You get a day for a wedding, not a lifetime copyright on everything you chose to incorporate in that day.

We had the same song. And I know two different couples who's weddings we are going to this summer will also be using it. One of our friends laughed with us because he is going to a bunch of weddings this summer and was trying to see how many he could get through before someone else used the song. I think we were only the second wedding he went to this year, their wedding isn't until September and they plan on using it. It is a very popular song, it is expected that other people will use it.

I wouldn't sweat it. That song is so popular right now, a lot of couples are using it. It's your 1st dance, it's about you and FH. Do whatever song you want and don't think twice.

Definitely don't give it too much thought, go ahead as planned. She's not the first person to use that song as her first dance, and she won't be the last.

That is a super popular song for weddings this year. I intentionally stayed away from it for that reason. If your that concerned pick another song. If people want to talk about ypu and your besties using the same song they suck anyhow.
