Belt/No Belt

I absolutely love looking back at pictures of my dress. However, the one downside is that I don't have many pictures of my dress without a belt. I specifically told the consultant that I wasn't interested in wearing a belt with my wedding dress (I've never been one to look great with a belt around my waist because of my shape). When I fell in love with this dress, the consultant immediately tried to add accessories to make me feel like a bride and the belt was something she kept insisting on. I don't think I want to get a belt because I don't want it to take away from the dress (especially the buttons down the back) but I'd be interested in some opinions! How do all you ladies feel about wearing a belt with your wedding dress? Did anyone feel pressured into getting a belt? Which do you think looks nicer with my dress?

@chandal she did tell me about them being able to do that with another dress, but with this one she said she didn't think they could. I don't remember what her reasoning was.

@mary m that was my concern! I know I have lots of time to make this decision but I just don't want to drive the woman crazy when I go back being indecisive. When I have my first fitting done I'm going to take a bunch of pictures with different belts and with my hair down ( that was the other thing she kept telling me was that normally brides wear their hair up and that's how I should wear mine but I hate my hair up - so I have no pictures of how I'd like to be in the dress to know what it would look like)

I personally like the simplicity without the belt. But if you're concerned with the back, you could have the seamstress sew it on and potentially eliminate the bow in the back.

You look gorgeous and that dress is lovely. It is pretty either way but I like it with the belt. Maybe a compromise would be to try a more simple belt, or a thinner one. But if you aren't a belt person just skip it, it looks beautiful either way

I think the dress is beautiful on its own so I can't really decide. I had this exact post because I too am torn between no belt and belt. Someone suggested I do no belt for the ceremony and add it for the reception to change the look a bit. I'm considering this. Either way, I think you'll look great Smiley smile

I like it better with the belt. You could have them attach the belt and have nothing extra in the back in alterations, so it doesn't take away from the buttons.

Either way looks good but I sort of like the belt. I might try on a few different belts before deciding on the first one she showed you so that maybe you can get a better idea.

Yes they can sew it into the dress. I think it looks beautiful either way and if you like it better without then ditch it! My belt makes my dress. I liked it without but I had the feels with it! You look great in that dress!

I think the belt accentuates your curves really nicely! but if you don't like it, don't wear it. it's your day and you should feel beautiful and perfect!

Belt! I am having mine sewn to the front, so there will be nothing in the back. My dress has buttons too and I didn't want a bow or anything like that in the back.

I was just talking to my mom about this and she said I'm being super paranoid over nothing lol but she suggested a rhinestone belt, which is totally not me so I couldn't see myself doing it. She also remembered the woman said not to sew it in because of the bow on the back being a beautiful part so it was just the consultants recommendation. But see that's the problem is that the consultant kept recommending things that weren't me, like the flat silver flower piece was not something I'd ever get, my hair being up, and the belt so I have no pictures of how I'd really want to style my dress. My mom checked and the dress should be in for December so I'm just going to have a bunch of accessories picked out and I'm going to style my hair down for the fitting to see how I like it. I'm driving myself nuts because I keep thinking I'll have this day only once and I'll have the pictures forever. I want to look how I've always imagined and not how someone else wants me to look. I think if I get more pictures I'll have an easier time making the right decision.

This is the belt she had on me... I liked it definitely more than rhinestone but the more I look the more I wonder if it even matches

I don't think that the belt adds anything to the dress.

I'm not a big fan of belts for the same reason - I'd go with your gut and go no belt. I do think the belt takes away from the buttons. It doesn't diminish them completely, but it does take away from them a bit.

I say no belt. Your dress has a lot of detail in it and to me the belt adds to it which is it not necessary. If you decide to go with a belt have it sewn to the dress. My dress also has buttons on the back and don't want them covered with a bow. I don't like bows anyway. Go with your gut.
