Beach Wedding Hair: Up or Down? Advice Needed!

Britty, on April 12, 2018 at 4:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I'm getting married on the beach in August. I really hate wearing my hair up because it's not flattering on me. I want to wear my hair down but I don't want my curls to fall before we take pics. It's a risk I'm willing to take though. I will not be wearing a veil but have some accessories picked out regardless of my hair being up or down.

My ideal hairstyle (minus that hair piece) is below. I'd use clip in extensions for length and thickness.

I am hoping to cut costs and do my own hair. The wedding is 4 months away and I CANNOT decide on what to do with my hair. I don't want to wake up the day of and still be undecided.

For any brides out there who have had a beach wedding, how did you wear your hair? What accessories did you use? Pics are welcome- advice/suggestions are welcome! Thank you.

I was thinking of having a beach wedding but ultimately changed my mind because it can be windy and noisey. With that in mind, I'd recommend putting it up.

I don't have any real advice for you, but if you don't like the way you look with your hair up don't wear it up!! Wear it how you will feel most beautiful and most comfortable. Hopefully if you use a lot of product/hairspray the curls will stay and place, but if they start to fall it's not the end of the world. I feel like it would end up looking totally normally if they do start to fall and you'll end up with the "beach wave" look.

*Edit* adding this: Another options is to pin part of it up to keep hair out of your face if it's a particularly windy day. I do stand firm on not wearing it up if you truly don't like the way you look with your hair up.

My ideal hairstyle is actually the first one you posted and with the hair jewelry. I like the updo, im thinking that style could be hard for you to do without someone helping you though. Since you plan to do it yourself try both out on yourself and see which you like. My stylist suggests doing a style most different from what you normally do for a unique look. I could see either at a beach wedding. I would also take into suggestions a style that won't look frizzy with a beach wedding and some air that may blow. My original venue was a golf course but now im considering a near-beach ceremony its a hotel location but the beach and ocean are a step away from ceremony. I like the idea of soft waves and down...waves...beach get it? lol I think any style you should use some good hair spray so it remains all night

That's a tough decision. Do you live near a beach? Would it be possible to do a hair trial on yourself in your idea style, and go to the beach on a hot day to see how it holds up? I also suffer from hair that can't hold a curl/is a mess unless it's in a bun so I get the fear if it falling flat.

I would say up because of the wind that could be coming off the ocean.

The best advice I got was “if you’ve never rocked an updo before, your wedding isn’t the time to try it” do whatever you love and are most comfortable with! Even with wind, a good photographer will know exactly how to place you for pictures to minimize it

Following because I'm having the same dilemma! I'm waiting for it to get a little hotter, then my plan is to do a trial with a hair-down style and see how it lasts. If it doesn't go well, I'll go with up (a similar low bun) for the big day.

I am having a beach wedding in September and having the same delimma! For work I have to wear my hair up and my FH likes it better down. I like the advice from above about having a "trial" day! We live only 30 minutes away from coast, sp hope you have the same option. Good luck...

I'm getting married on the beach and plan on wearing my hair in a similar updo like the one you posted this way it's not all in my face.

If wearing your hair up isn’t flattering on you how about a side updo? You want to compliment your dress with your hair style so what does your dress look like? Sleeveless, v-neck, off the shoulder, strapless? That will give you a better idea on how you should wear your hair. Also if you guys are doing a first look I think your curls will be fine but if not than yeah you may want to consider something else. We all know how curls are.

If you go with a side updo (my suggestion) maybe a side bang as well will flatter your face more. Smiley smile
