BBQ TEXAS WEDDING

futuremrsrichardson, on November 17, 2017 at 8:44 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 24

Curious if you guys think BBQ at a Texas wedding is tacky. I currently live in NYC but am from the Dallas area so I would like to have a Texas wedding. Since most people will be traveling to Texas making this a destination wedding I want the venue and theme to be Texas vs. just another ballroom wedding. I have a soft hold on a barn venue right now until I can get back to Texas next month to view it but what do you think about BBQ for dinner? I was thinking we would have apps and some action stations followed by BBQ (I plan on renting real plates, silver ware, cups, etc) and not using plastic to make it a little more upscale! I also want to rent a food truck for a midnight snack. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Sounds yummy! Just make sure you have options for vegetarians and vegans. We did a BBQ rehearsal and the caterer was easily able to accommodate, but I would just make sure there are plenty of non meat options.

As a Texan, I know that most Texans choose to have barbecue for their catering, so I don't think it's tacky at all! Just make sure you get some GOOD stuff.

ETA: agree with getting non meat options as well!

We're having southern BBQ at our reception! Not tacky at all, it's a nice change from the traditional chicken/beef/whatever.

I am having an BBQ "I Do" wedding. With a Rustic theme. I think it's a great idea especially for Texas weddings ! Love the food truck idea !!

This is just me (and I love BBQ) but maybe a mix it up instead of food that many people eat all the time? Maybe combine the two? Mini knishes, mini street dogs, Brooklyn Pizza, Orange Julius (spiked of course....)

    Just thinking out loud.

I think if that's what you want, its great! Plus, it fits with your venue idea well. Might be a little odd if you had BBQ in a castle or something. It seems pretty common now for weddings to do some of the more casual foods, and I think it gives it a more "family feel". Some of these BBQ caterers are amazing! We tasted a couple at bridal shows, outstanding. We thought about it for our beach wedding, but ended up choosing a venue that does all the catering. Best wishes

There's never anything wrong with BBQ, as long as it's high quality BBQ and not just meats (or faux meats for Vegetarians) with sauce poured all over it.

Thank you so much for your suggestions and comments! I appreciate you all! I know my NYC friends will love some good Texas BBQ! We are going to order from Hutchin's which recently was featured on the James Beard website so it will be very yummy BBQ! I will also be sure to have a vegetarian option!

I LOVE BBQ but BBQ at a wedding, I would feel it would get messy with hand-needed food and dark sauces.

I feel like Texas people would be really particular about BBQ like I am about pizza (chicago). So you'd have to nail the perfect caterer. I like @celia's suggestion of mixing it up a bit since BBQ is so normal there.

I live in the northeast, so I have an inkling of the level of guest hosting, in the NYC area. I think it might be a bit of a culture shock. It certainly was for my family, when we flew to two weddings, in different parts of the U.S.

Anytime I hear BBQ at a wedding I get super excited! I love good BBQ and I am sure in Texas it's like no where else!! I was trying to convince FH to do BBQ but he won't buy into it!
