BBQ laid back wedding?

Jennifer, on April 3, 2013 at 10:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

I know, I know. It's not typical to think this sort of thing is acceptable. Yet, as soon as I stopped thinking about big huge, 130+ person wedding, I instantly calmed down. My fiance and I are laid back, sweat pants, beer drinking people. I'm thinking 50-60 people max, and bbq for the buffet style picnic set up. Does anyone think this sounds tacky?

Btw, no sweatpants at the wedding Smiley winking thought I'd clarify. Then a week long honeymoon through the coast of West Michigan. No itinerary, no spending limit, no map. Doesn't that sound adventurous?

No it's not tacky at all, it's all about what fits you and your FH. My FH and I are having a buffet dinner for our outdoor reception and it's going to be BBQ and stuff like that. Our wedding is a week before yours Smiley smile Our wedding and reception are both outdoors and we'll have about 100 people or so, the buffet BBQ reception is definitely us

That sounds absolutely wonderful. I wish I would have kept things small with a BBQ potluck reception back home. If that's the way you want to go, seriously do it and don't let an uptight FMIL change your mind (like I did).

Sounds like my wedding : ) vineyard on the Columbia river. Wine and beer and we hired an amazing BBQ restaurant to prepare pulled pork, beans , slaw ect YUM YUM. I will say while laid back its still equally as expensive and stressful as an elegant affair lol. Everything costs $$ : )) ours will be approx 150 people.

We're having a BBQ wedding... with ribs and everything... pie and home made ice cream

Edit: Ours is a little more than a casual BBQ but we really wanted BBQ.. and I think it is totally doable as a casual wedding!

Not tacky at all, as long as there are no sweatpants Smiley winking If it fits you as people and as a couple then it will be perfect.

As for a roadtrip adventure honeymoon, that sounds fantastic!

Your wedding should be what the two of you agree upon. The only wrong wedding is when it's yours and you don't like the arrangements.

Not tacky at all, go to Pinterest and search for "DIY BBQ wedding" they have tons of neat ideas, that was our original plan, but our original 30 guest, is almost close to 80 now and kind of growing still.

Not tacky at all! im on the same boat! we decided to do a smaller wedding. We are having a small ceremony by the beach and then having a laid back reception at his parents house in their back yard. im planning this all in 3 months and not even stressed now that we've made it smaller and im not having to worry about as much Smiley smile

I am having "Beach Party" Wedding with a B-B-Q. I am looking forward to the up beat spirit behind the fun, like we have at family cook outs.

Not at all, we're doing the same thing for about the same amount of ppl or less but will try to make it as elegant as possible, lol! We'll be near the beach but decided on a DIY backyard venue which will require us to rent a tent & chairs. We already have tables & will use our electric smoker to cook most of the foods. We're also doing a self serve bar. We're also pretty laid back but our decision was mainly to cut cost where we could. Good Luck w/your plans!

@ Dina M. We were gonna do the DIY backyard family cook out too until the guest list grew a little, then I decided it would be to much to ask of FBIL to host at his house.
