Backyard wedding - permit required??

Jennifer, on June 4, 2014 at 10:32 AM Posted in Planning 1 8

Having a backyard wedding. Between 100-150 people. I'm not sure if I need a permit or not, but I'm afraid to ask because if they say yes and don't give it to me I'm screwed. Thoughts?? All the neighbors are cool with the wedding being there (and most are going) and I've set up a shuttle service so there should not be numerous cars in the neighborhood. There are no tents because they do require a permit (and are super expensive). Help :-/

I don't think anybody will exactly know the answer. One thing for sure is I wouldn't want to risk getting shut down because we didn't follow the rules. Find out your community guidelines and figure out what you need to do.

Check with city hall - FH's sister throws a Halloween party in her cul-de-sac every year and they need a permit because there is drinking...BUT it is only because we are in the street. If you are on your own property I can't imagine it would be an issue, but just call and ask. You don't have to give them any information, just do a general inquiry. Let us know what you find out!

I can't get a tent with a floor anyway because the ground isn't level like that. I've already been down the tent road - and I'm not going there.... so if it rains - we have a 3000sqhouse with walk out basement, a garage, a covered patio, and umbrellas. I'm not a bridezilla, its a really casual wedding, and we'll party in the rain just like we would in the sun :-)

I'll call zoning and find out

I'm having a back yard wedding but we are on farm land and have no neighbors and the ones we have are FH's uncle and grandmother. We aren't getting a permit as we don't have too since it's family land but if you are in the city I think you have to to protect yourself. We are doing a tent with no floor but we are only serving moscato.

We are in a neighborhood heading out towards more country space, but we live on an acre (mostly in the back). We are having a full bar - we have a bartender and I already contacted ABC and do not need a license for this.

If it is on your own property, I would imagine you don't need a permit, but you should check with city hall just to be sure.

Just checked - spoke with Spotsy county zoning - No permit required because I will not have tents. And no ABC permit because its on my property and there's no cash involved (open bar)
