Bachelorette Party Question

Cydney J (Cydney M), on September 8, 2011 at 1:28 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 23

Okay...so I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I don't want to not do a bachelorette party as I feel like it's part of the wedding experience. However, I've never really understood the whole going out and getting drunk and playing games that I know make me uncomfortable watching let alone being the main attraction.

I just figured I'd do a spa day or something with my BMs...but now 1 of my BM's has some how convinced me that I'm a stick in the mud & we should go do a night out on the town. I think I agreed to it because I didn't really feel like trying to explain once again as to why I didn't want to do the traditional way.

I'd like to do something that weekend as my FH is getting a surprise bachelor party trip to Vegas...and I'd prefer not be by myself while he's having the time of his life. (probably another reason I agreed)

Do you ladies have any ideas that I can give to my BM for a bacelorette party? something that isn't going to break the bank??

For my bachelorette party a group of my girls and I went to a nice dinner at a local restaurant and had some delicious cocktails. Then we went back to my house and sat around talking about girl stuff and drinking wine and oddly enough, jello shots. It was a lot of fun. I wasn't interested in going out and getting crazy either. It was fun to get a little crazy with my friends at home instead of out in public.

We are going to go wine tasting as part of my bachelorette party. There is a city that has multiple wineries and they range between free and $5 to do the tasting. Not too expensive and it is a good time.

Spa days are equally as expensive as going out on the town... We looked into a spa day for a friend of mine and it was fairly pricey... also if you have party animals for BM's it may be painful for them being at a spa when they would rather take you for your "last fling before the ring!" haha also one bonus to the night on the town.. if your BM's are anything like we were... the bride didn't pay for a single thing that night. One of my friends is very religious and doesn't drink ever.. so we rented a cabin out at the lake and went on a dinner cruise on a house boat... it only cost us 50 bucks each for the dinner cruise and the cabin was 350 for the night split between 4 of us!

I'm not the one worried about the actual costs. I feel horribly bad asking my friends (2 of which I know don't make a ton of money and one of those 2 is trying to save as much as she can) to spend more money than they already have.

I know being a MOH or a BM can be costly so I'm trying to lessen the blow financially.

I like Stephanie's idea. Wine tasting parties are so much fun! In some areas, there are companies that you can hire to have sommeliers come out to your house to teach everyone about the wines.

I don't think it has to be an all-night drunk fest either.... For my best friend's bachelorette, we all went country line dancing and out to dinner (not many of us are big drinkers). I think my BM's are planning a trip to Vegas for mine but it's more for the shows and the ambiance than the drinking.

I think your idea of a spa day sounds great! I also liked Stephanie's idea of doing a wine tasting day.

We're doing my party in parts. First we're getting makeovers by a Mary-Kay consultant, then we are getting all dolled up and going to Applebee's for appetizers and then going out to a club to dance and have a few drinks. My girls know I want it to be tame, but still want to have fun.

I love the wine tasting idea, the dinner cruise or the spa idea too. What about a jewelry party where they can all make necklaces or bracelets to wear to the wedding? One of my clients did a lampwork glass bead workshop, where the 7 of them went to the studio, brought wine and snacks, and made some amazing glass beads that they then strung and wore to the rehearsal dinner. Another did an outing at Medieval Times, which I thought was brilliant (and not insane expensive....)

The only thing that I don't like about the MK idea is that the idea of a MK party is to buy stuff; what about mani-pedis at a local salon? Massages at Massage Envy? Bowling, which is so uncool it's cool......

I don't know, call me crazy, but shouldn't the bachelorette party involve something the bride wants to do?

We are doing a weekend getaway with my girls. We are not doing a drunk fest, granted some will be drinking. We are doing a lunch cruise, shopping, dinner and then crashing in our hotel. Fun but nothing too crazy or expensive.

I had a passion party representative come to my house and do a little demonstration, we played games, had a couple of drinks and had lots of fun. Simple and it didn't break the bank Smiley smile

I don't know what you are in to, but a few years ago I was a BM for one of my best friend's weddings and for her bachelorette party her sister (MOH) hosted a Pure Romance party at the house. We had margaritas and let the Pure Romance lady do her thing. It was a blast! We played games, laughed A LOT and just relaxed. So that is another suggestion...

My MOH is under 21, so I think my MOH, me, my mom, my FMIL and my two FSIL may go out to dinner and just hang out. Nothing to big and it wont break everyone. and we can still drink at the restaurant.

LOL Celia...We're going bowling! Not just any bowling, Blacklight bowling like back in high school! We don't go out, get drunk or party like that. Were also doing a co ed party since we all get along. We will do separate girly/boy stuff in the afternoon, meet for dinner then go bowling like a bunch of nerds! lol Im excited

I'm going out to a bachelorette party this weekend, and we're doing dinner/drinks out at a local restaurant then going to a burlesque show downtown. Just going out to have fun, doubt we'll get messy drunk.

Anything you want! One friend did snow skiing, the other did white water rafting, and one other did movies, dinner and dancing. For mine, we are doing a brown bag party and refreshments, dinner, and then the Big Bang dueling piano thing. FH and the guys are going to Cedar Point, and then will try to find some bars. I'm a little jealous of hisSmiley smile

I really love the idea of going to the spa....Soon to be Mrs. Clark.....I thought of bowling too!

We did a dinner cruise with karaoke (for which we dressed in 80s prom dresses, just for fun), and next week for my friend's wedding we are doing dinner/cocktails and then going to an indie music club after that.

We are going to the annual wine festival and doing the wine tastings on Friday. Saturday we are going to Painting with a Twist - not sure if your area has this but basically its BYOW and munchies and an instructor teaches you how to paint. If you do a group you can go private party and pick you painting. I have not done this before but its apparently a blast. After that we are going to the hotel, changing, going to dinner and then bar hoping (all is walking distance from the hotel). To try and help on the cost aspect we have told people they can come to one event or all.

As you can tell Im a big wine person so this may not be to your liking. I had orginally planned that we would rent a lake house and just chill all weekend but it was going to be WAY too difficult for everyone to travel

@ALN, I actually just suggested something similar to my MOH to tell the BM ... here, it's called Cocktails and Canvases, only you get the wine at the place.

I might also suggest pottery too...who knows?!

We're going to a movie at the theater that costs $4, then hanging out at my house with food, whatever drinks people want to bring (not all of us drink alcohol), and just hanging out. I'm not a drinker or a party person, so it works out for me. Those who want to stay the night can, those who don't want to, don't have to. Smiley smile
