Auspicious wedding dates

Olivia, on March 21, 2017 at 11:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

Hi fellow brides to be, how do you decide on the wedding date? I am looking for a date that is auspicious for both my fiance and my family.

We picked the date based on availability at our chosen venue.

Different dates are considered auspicious in different cultures. If this is really important to you, maybe consult a fortune teller who shares your cultural background.

We based it on wanting warm weather and what was available at the venue. It just so happened that it's falling on the 8th which if FH favorite number. Definitely not planned.

So, I'm sure that nobody else was as crazy as me when it came to date picking. Here's what I did...

We knew we wanted at least a year engagement (got engaged 12/31/16), so I got a one-page 12 months calendar out of 2018 that I could write all over. I first crossed out all birthdays and anniversaries of siblings, parents, grandparents and people we were 100% sure would be in the wedding party (although they don't know that yet). I then marked out holidays (for Christmas and Thanksgiving, I marked out the entire week... Usually I just did the entire weekend). Then I got the farmers almanac and weather trends for my area. I crossed out days that are most likely to storm, the days with highest chances of tornado, highest chances of humidity, I crossed out the coldest and hottest days on average... then I crossed out all the cold months (hate winter!) And crossed out all the "wedding season" months... After all that, I was left with two blocks of dates... One in April and the other in October. October would have been an almost 2 year engagement, which neither of us were super excited about, so we went with April. The 28th was the only Saturday that hadn't already been crossed out by one thing or another... And that is how I decided to get married on 4/28/18

Did almost the same as Tamara B minus the almanac. We are both on our second marriage so we crossed out both of our previous wedding anniversary months...our ex's birthday months...holidays....etc. Took the months that were left and researched the carnival website for a specific cruise we wanted to take for our honeymoon and narrowed it down. Then from about the 3 dates that were left after we narrowed it down we chose the date of the cheapest cruise. This is how we came to March 10 2018

Thanks for your replies! I just came across this website which provides 3 years of auspicious dates, and even include a calendar on birth gender. Anyone used

    www.fengshuiaudit.com before? Any reviews?

@Tamara- then you searched for venues that just so happened to have that date available. Did it actually work out?

Picked based on venue's availability and I didn't want our date anywhere near anyone's birthday or any major holiday

My MIL is rather superstitious so before we decide on the venue, just wanna be sure we pick the right date that doesnt clash with anyone in our family to prevent any bad things from happening. I hav heard horro stories where the FIL fell really ill days after the marriage and the family blame it on the bride and thought she is a jinx.

We wanted early October, the 7th was booked but the 6th wasn't. Venue was more important than the exact date to us.

We chose our date based on venue availability and weather. Las Vegas is too hot after March for most of our guests, the 18th was available, so we booked it.

Our date is the weekend before our 8 year anniversary. We also don't like summer and winter

We decided on time of year first (fall of this year vs. spring of next year) and then looked at what weekends were open for us/our VIPs. It pretty much left us with one weekend free in the fall, so we picked our date and then found a venue that was available.

We chose something that was close to our original dating date (Feb 22) as far as the day goes. We wanted a summer wedding, but my b-day is in June, so we pushed it to July so it's not as close to that. Also, 21 is a lucky number to me!

I really wanted a May wedding we're the flowers are blooming! This May was too soon so we picked next May! Then we picked the 12th because that date just worked the best with schedule.

My grandma is into Numerology so I told her around the time we wanted to get married, and she came up with the 20th of may because apparently, in numerology, it means "a change is to come which includes a new partnership and new beginnings. This combination brings money, power, and success." -her wording to me in an email. I decided to go with it! Plus is worked out since my FH is graduating from college the Saturday before the wedding. We decided to get everything done in one month so he can start his new job in June!

I'd sure be in a hurry to join that family lol

You should pick your date based on venue availability, but you should have a time of year/season in mind. We wanted a December wedding because our courtship was over the holidays and so was our engagement. Also, I always dreamed of being a snow princess on my wedding day (absolutely love snow and could never picture myself as a summer bride!) But we also had an autumn wedding in mind if December didn't work out with the venue we wanted. When we toured, they told us available dates and they had both December and October. We ended up going with December, which was our first choice.

Even though I'm actively searching for venues that will allow everything to be inside (deciding on a venue and a restaurant this weekend with FH) I wanted something in the cooler months. FH sweats horribly during the warmer months and even though we're going to be outside for only a short period of time I wanted him to be comfortable the entire day so we're aiming for February. The date I have selected is just a place holder until we have a more secure date.

We picked a venue last year and chose one of the 3 Saturdays they had left for all of 2017.
