Hi ladies!!

So, I went to have dinner few days ago with my friend and her sister came along. They haven't see me since I got engaged well after they ask to se the ring lol the sister asked me flat out "are you sure you want to marry him?" I was like wow no one has asked that ever!! My reaction was ofcourse!! And she replied tell me why??? I felt like i was at an interview!! She is a great girl and very fun to hang out with but I was really surprised she asked me that. She also asked me I was going to have an open bar wedding??? Mmm I just smile and said we're not sure yet but just in case bring your wallet lol... I feel really offended by all those questions am I over reacting????

I have to admit I told someone something similar I think I said "why do you guys want to get married so soon?" , and the reason I asked was because I knew they didn't have a hmmm.. how can I say it " a healthy realtionship", they had huge dramatic break ups every week yes literally every week! They were planning the wedding after being together for a few months, but I still told her that I supported her if thats what she really wanted I would help her plan it and find her some deals.

I don't know why her sister asked about the bar. I hate that question!!! If you're only reason to go to my wedding is to get smashed go to the bar.

A very similar thing happened last night when I dropped a car off at my Mom's work, I went in to let her know the car was there, and her boss and a few other co-workers were all asking me the same question, "Why do you want to get married," and "Don't do it". Made me really p- off! Then my Mom goes on to say, "they want to go on a cruise for their honeymoon, I dunno they might be able too, we have some wealthy people in the family." Yeah, that was a very rude comment and No you Did Not Overreact.

You handled it a lot better than I did because I would have cursed her out. She mos def would not be invited to my wedding or anywhere else with me.

I've said it before, weddings either bring out the best or the worst in people. I used to work downtown next door to where the JOP's married people on Fridays and there was a lady at my work who always would yell at the people who were standing around waiting for their appt with the judge "DON'T DO IT!" She thought this was hilarious but it's really sad that so many people are so jaded against marriage these days.

@ Konichiwa ... I think it might be because of the divorce rate? Every person that said that comment to me last night had been divorced ... it is really sad though, but I guess you can't expect EVERYONE to be happy for you ... Missed the part about the open bar ... that was extremely rude ... no matter what wedding I go to, I assume it's going to be a cash bar and I make sure I have enough money (it never is) but I would never dream to ask someone that ...

Oh wow. that's rude! and I have had this question asked, mostly by my mother but it was coming from a place of love and wisdom. Sure enough I was able to verbalize my stance and she is the medium to the men in our family, lol once u win her you're good. she went on to remind my father, uncles, etc that They chose who they wanted to marry so let me do the same Smiley smile

So maybe articulating yourself shut her down. Either way, I agree with the others that I wouldn't want to wine and dine her haha.

I completely agree, she is the sister of the friend, not worthy of an invite.

I would honestly assume that she had something going on and was projecting it onto you. Does she have a failed or failing marriage/engagement/relationship? Is she so young that she can't fathom marriage? Is she asking (are you sure...) because she is currently asking herself this?

I would blow off the comments and her invite.

How old is your bff's sister? Maybe she's young and didn't mean for it to come out as rudely as it did. Has she ever been in a serious relationship before? Maybe she doesn't understand what it feels like or how you know when it's real and doesn't have the social tact to ask about it in a mature way that doesn't come across offensively. As for the open bar question...weirdddd...maybe she just likes to party and wants to start mentally preparing herself? haha. If it really bothered you, I don't think it would be a bad thing to tell her in a very calm way that her questions and the way she asked them hurt and offended you. She might not realize that she sounded like she was questioning your relationship.

......not the best way to secure an invite to your wedding I'd say. Very rude! I would lose her invite if you have one made for her sweetie!

Just because it's your BFF"s sister, doens't mean she had to be invited. I understand if you were super close to the sister, but, by the sounds of it, you're not. My BFF and her family were invited because I am a daughter to them and BFF's sister are my sisters. I go there for holidays, birthdays, etc. What did BFF say to the sister?

I've had a few people ask me that. I just come back with some smart ass remark- "Well, if I don't he'll stop buying me shoes." Or "He'll make a good ex-husband someday and the sex is good enough to keep me satisfied for the next few years at least."
