The New Mrs. B
Master May 2013

Are you supposed to capitalize the year on invitiations?

The New Mrs. B, on November 19, 2012 at 7:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

This may seem like such a silly question.. but I've seen it both ways..

How should our invitations read?:

"Saturday, May Eleventh, Two thousand thirteen"

"Saturday, May Eleventh, Two Thousand Thirteen"

Thanks!

Looking back right now, I didn't capitalize on mine. I have also seen it both ways, and honestly, it is one of those things that I don't think any one way is "wrong enough" to matter or stick out so I think it just comes down to your own personal preference.

That was sort of the conclusion that I was coming to.. that if I found so many examples of each, that it couldn't be terribly important! Smiley smile

    Thanks MrsO!

Check out invitation samples online, like from birchcraft or carlson craft.

Saturday, May eleventh, two thousand thirteen

    or,

FWIW, Miss Manners (I love her column!) says you don't need the year-- that people should just *know* you're not sending them out over a year in advance. From a historial POV, it could be really awesome if somebody's great-grandkids came across a treasured invite and saw the year!

    I wouldn't capitalize it.

Although we used an all-lower case font for that section of our invites anyway, so I guess we cheated. Smiley smile

    Personally I prefer:

    Saturday, the eleventh of May

    two thousand thirteen

b/c it looks more symmetrical and sounds nicer than:

    Saturday, May eleventh

    two thousand thirteen

    but that's just me.
