Are we supposed to feed vendors?

Tamara, on February 13, 2012 at 9:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 45

My wedding is costing $120 per person which includes, venue, food, decor, etc. I'm waiting on a response from my Wedding Planner on what the protocol is. With that said, what is the protocol? Are we supposed to feed the DJ's, Photographers, Videographers, etc?

Yes. It doesn't neccessarily have to be the same food that your guests are getting. Some of mine had it in the contract that it could be something different.

My hall also has a vendor plate, and I will be feeding my 2 DJ's and 2 Photographers.

Many vendors will include it into their contract that if they are contracted for a certain number of hours that you are required to provide them with a meal. If they don't specifically require it, it is still courteous to do so. As Juliette said, check with your venue if they have a special vendor meal price.

Same as above! We have a special price for vendors, and they also are allowing us to include them in our count if we do not meet the minimum amount of people requirement so we don't have to pay twice. I don't think that will happen but we made sure just in case.

Yes you have to feed them. I discuss with each vendor what was being served as an FYI.

None of my vendors have anything in their contract related to being fed. That said I will be feeding both of my photogs, videographers, my dj and my planner.

Yes, you feed the vendors..I asked and my venue didn't have any cheaper meal I could opt into like a sandwich or anything, so I had to pay the same as a guest.

Yes, you do. I was shocked to find many vendor actually had this in their contracts! It's like its not enough that I am paying an arm and a leg for your services, It is in the contract that i have to pay the 9 people that are parts of the services at 150 dollars a plate...ugh.

As you can see some vendors require it while others do not. Check your contracts and see what is spelled out. In the end you may want to feed them anyway.

All my vendors said they do not and will not eat.. but I am going to let them know that they are welcome to have something if they want (be it apps or a plate at dinner)

Some venues offers a special price for vendors. For example, my venue allows their recommended vendors to eat for free, and outside vendors at about 50% the regular price per plate. Try to use this as a negotiating tool with your venue if they do not offer a discount for outside vendors.

We did not feed vendors who were there only for the ceremony (photographer, florist, Massachusetts hair and make-up person). And the reception right after the ceremony was at a restaurant, so we figured they would undoubtedly feed their own staff. However, all of the vendors at the at-home reception got fed. This went back to my elementary school training: You don't eat in front of people unless you are willing to share.

My photographer requires it (it's in her contract), but since she'll be working ALL day, I wouldn't even think about not getting her a meal! My DJ's contract actually says that he does not need a meal. Since he's only working maximum 5 hours (including set-up, take-down), it's not that big a deal.

As a photographer, my assistant and i are constantly on the move throughout the day thus we are burning A LOT of calories while photographing a wedding. It is in my contract that meals (of equal quality of the reception plates - does not have the be the exact same food, just the same quality) are provided for my assistant and myself. Otherwise we would have to leave to get food in the middle of your wedding.... and we'd prefer not to so that we dont miss anything important. We definitely need the refuel to make it through the rest of the wedding reception without becoming lethargic, lol. A fed photographer is a happy photographer Smiley smile
