Are these groomsmen too casual?

Hammie, on April 9, 2016 at 6:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

Ok FH decided a while ago that he wanted to do something like this for him and his groomsmen. He's still undecided whether he wants to wear a vest to set himself apart or wear suspenders as well and do something else to set himself apart. Anyway I went dress shopping today and found the most beautiful dress! My concern is the dress might be more formal than what we were initially going for. It is satin and ivory almost gold colored. I just fell in love. I can post the dress as well. I'm very undecided.

This is my dress. This picture doesn't do it justice to the way it fit! I'm just concerned the satin is more formal that the initial idea..

The dress is way more formal than the tennis shoes and suspenders imho.

    Dress is stunning!

    I love your dress!

What is your venue? How are your guests dressing?

I think those factors should come into play when decide how formal to dress the guys.

I also pinned a very similar picture of the groomsmen. I really like that look but when I booked my venue, I realized it was a little too informal so now we're doing vests. Your dress is a little more formal but it could work if the rest of your wedding is a little less formal. I think the brides dress doesn't need to fit in lol

Well we were definitely planning to have them all in matching dress shoes NOT tennis shoes. But he really likes the bow ties and suspenders. Our venue is a banquet hall not super fancy but definitely very nice. Thanks for all the opinions!

I love the dress, I love the groomsmen!

It's your and your partner's wedding; do it the way you want! Just remember that he may not say much about anything...but if he specifically wants something, it might be an idea to compromise...

That is a very classy dress but it seems too formal if you want to do groomsmen/FH dressed in shirts and suspenders.

I like it with real shoes, but you are too formal for him. But it doesn't matter. They guys look great and so dos that dress.

I like the look but I would have them do dress shoes, not tennis shoes.

I love the dress! I do like the groomsmen (but not with sneakers) we are having all of them just wear the vests and FH will wear the jacket to set himself apart I love it!

FH decided he didn't want jackets or even vests because he's worried about it being too hot (August wedding). He will be in white suspenders with a white bow tie. The GM will be in plum suspenders with a regular plum tie. I was able to get 3 adult suspenders/1 child suspenders, 1 bow tie/2 regular ties/1 child tie, and 3 pairs of socks from Tie Mart for $67! We will be renting pants from Mens Wearhouse for $35/pair.

Our venue is a hotel ballroom and my dress is floor length, but no train (it's actually a BM dress in white). While the look will not be super formal, it will come together nicely.

What about instead of jeans doing a nice suit pant and suspenders? I love the Jean look and think it's great but i kinda agree it doesn't really go with your dress.

What Celia said. Yes the dress is more formal. But FH should get to wear what he wants too. As long as both of you look nice it'll look fantastic.

It's not just the dress, but the overall vibe of the wedding. What kind of food are you serving? Is it a sit down dinner at a hotel? Or are you getting married in a rustic barn? Personally, I think the bride can wear whatever she wants - irrelevant to the tone of the wedding, but the groom has less wiggle room. We had a church wedding, and our reception was cocktail attire. The boys wore suits and I felt it was apropos. Think about the overall tone that you want to project. You want the day to feel cohesive.
