Are there any 2021 Brides considering canceling or postponing your wedding?

Robyn, on August 12, 2020 at 11:53 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22

Hello All,

My Wedding is scheduled for 2/27/21 in Costa Rica. As of right now CR is not letting US citizens into the country. My wedding planner who is not local believes this restriction won't last and will be lifted in the coming months. However, the new guidelines state the country requires a negative COVID test to be taken within 48 hours prior to entry as well as purchase insurance if you would be required to quarantine. While I don't mind doing this its my guests that I am concerned about. More effort and money for them. Ms. Rona has really put a damper on this whole process for me...and I'm just kinda over it :-( But then part of me is like I have wanted this for so long and I'm not ready to let go of it. What are your thoughts 2021 Brides or Brides in general? I am open to hear all view points because right now I just don't know what to do.

    Hey Robyn!!

Initially my wedding was booked for July 22,2021. I didn’t think I would need to postpone. But then flight restrictions came in and passport/ visa agencies decided to slow down. I have family traveling from the DR and from Europe. I don't know when flying to the US will be permitted. My fiancé and I decided to move it one more year.
In the end it benefited us as we are now able to buy a home before getting married and the wedding still gets paid off next year.
Postponing is definitely not ideal but no one really knows what’s going to happen. If your gut tells you let’s postpone do it.

Thanks Hilenny!! You are right no one really knows what's going to happen unfortunately. One of the things that concern me with postponing is also subsequently postponing our desire to start a family. We really wanted to start on our wedding night LOL But we have discussed not postponing the start of trying. Which means I could potentially be showing (if its God will) at the later scheduled date. Which there is nothing wrong with it but its not what I invisioned. I guess I could postpone it a year out as well but start the family making process now. It is something to think about. Buying a home is a big step/accomplishment. Congratulations!!

Hi Robyn! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, I know it's so hard to predict what things will be like in February. ❤️ Destination weddings still make me a little nervous right now, because travel bans and restrictions can change so quickly and without warning - and it's completely out of your control!

Here are a few discussions where you can connect with other couples planning destination weddings and family planning: Destination weddings in 2020, Destination? Covid? Compromise?, February 2021, and Postponed Wedding and Babies.

Oh no I’m so sorry that restriction is affecting you. I think postponing may relieve most of your stress, and then you can plan again without worrying as much! It’s so hard to predict when international travel will resume

My wedding is March and right now my fiancé and I decided to see what till happen in the fall/winter. I talked to my wedding coordinator today and she said that I have until the end of January/beginning of February to make a decision. Either have it, postpone, or cancel with a refund. Do you think you can’t wait until Octoberish to see if anything changes? If we are on “lockdown” at that time I would either move it to the US or change it

Commenting on the title... That’s a NO for me! Lol. I would be afraid of February though. But I wouldn’t cancel.

This passed feb 2020 before the wide spread pandemic, we had already planned for DECEMBER 2021 for time and financial reasons. Kinda glad we did. So I wouldn’t be changing. But you balling in Costa Rica so I’m on the fence.

    Thank you Robyn!!

We actually had planned to start during our honeymoon lol. And we were planning on having our honeymoon in 2022 anyway so it kind of works. I’ve noticed a lot of couples on here have decided to elope with close family and reception later. Maybe that can work for you and maybe your little one can celebrate as well.
    Best of luck!!

Thanks Yasmine. I just sent an email to my wedding coordinator asking my options and the details of having it, postponing, canceling or maybe moving it to another destination. Waiting to hear back from her. Yes we can wait til October. We were told we have until December to really make a choice but the 2% of type A personality wants to have it all planned out LOL. But my FH is all for holding on to the very end, bless his heart. LOL. The destination means a lot to us. Constantly praying for a turn around.

Thanks Asia, yes I can totally understand that. Canceling would be the absolute last option we would even consider. LOL I'm glad you all picked the December as well. That was great insight. Smiley catface LOL @ balling in Costa Rica. Costa Rica is really special to us; its where we both realized that this journey we were on was one that was going to be forever. Smiley heart

I would definitely wait at least until October to make a decision because literally no one knows what will happen with COVID. I really hope you can continue as planned!
