Are photo-booth's a necessity these days?

Jean, on May 27, 2012 at 9:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 23

I really, really want to have a PB at our wedding, but I just can't factor it into the budget. With so many weddings having photo-booths these days, I was wondering if anyone thought it was a necessity to have one at the reception? How many of you brides are not doing a photo-booth at your wedding?

We considered doing one for fun purposes but unfortunately just couldn't work it into a budget. We did see a, I believe it was Groupon, deal not too long ago for our area to get one for $450 but still opted not to do it.

We didn't have one at ours, nor have I been to a wedding with one. I think it falls into the category that it is nice when it is there, but if it wasn't, no one is going to miss it. Definitely not a necessity.

    Hi Jean! :waves:

We didn't have one. Photo booths are really fun but so are about a million other things you can have at weddings, we felt like we had to cut something somewhere. And I kind of felt the same way - seriously the last 5 weddings we've been to have had a photo booth and I felt like it might not have the same novelty factor for the money. We used our photo booth money for the Giordanos delivery instead. Smiley smile

Scour groupon and living social though! One bride was saying the other day she got hers for $250 with a groupon.

Hi!! I was at the 1st wedding I have been to with a photo booth Saturday night, I thought with her venue it added a lot because she was in a hotel banquette room and the only other things to do was chat or dance really... At our wedding we have boats, canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, camp fires, and yard games and pre-warned everyone to show up casual like its a family reunion. We didn't even think of doing a photo booth, I don't think they are that amazing.

I've only been to one wedding where they had one, and honestly very few people used it. I think they are a gimmick, and there are only certain people who really care about it. So, no, not needed.

Thank you all for the input!! It makes me feel better about not having one..

FH said the same thing that other people have done the whole photo-booth thing and that it's overrated...I have been to only one wedding with one and it was a blast...

Mrs.Ohler... congrats on your wedding!! The pictures are beautiful Smiley smile !!!

Hi kris! :waves back: ! I missed you Smiley sad !!! You were a stunning bride!!!!! Even with a groupon coupon, at this point, we can't afford to add anything else in. My Mom would splurge on Giordanos pizza though, as she's from Chi-town and loves them...unfortunately we can't get them to ship to Florida Smiley winking

If you really want one you could look into DIY, I think there was a how-to thread about that the other day.

Honestly, if it's not in your budget, I'd skip it and don't look back! Our reception was 10 1/2 hours long with nothing to do but mingle and dance and the photo booth wasn't missed. Not by me anyway!

Doesn't Giordanos ship?? I thought they did......Portillos does! And thank you!!! Smiley smile

OMG if it's in your budget that would be friggin amazing.........maybe your caterer would help you out with the logistics. Ours did, b/c they know that's not something they can replicate so they actually took the delivery and set them out on little silver trays. It was actually pretty cute.

That's awesome that she did that for you!! I just emailed my coordinator...I was thinking!!

1/2 of our guests are from Chicago so I was going to have her put Giordanno's out as a late night snack...

1/2 of our guests are from Buffalo so I can also order Mighty Taco (a Buffalo Staple) as a late night snack as well!!

How cool would it be to have late night snacks from both Chicago and Buffalo Smiley smile !!! FH would flip!!

How many pizza's did you order??

Photobooths are only good if your guests are extroverts, I've seen. Also, if it's an awesome booth with props and a great backdrop, people will be all over it.

If it's a bland photobooth, or if your guests are not all that outgoing, they will probably not do a photobooth.

I'm not having one! While they sound awesome, they cost $1,000 in the area we'll be married in and that is just not in our budget. The only actual neccessities at your wedding are you, the groom, and someone to marry you Smiley smile

@ Kris - wow your reception was 10 1/2 hours?! Is this the norm in your neck of the woods? I only ask because I've never heard of one going that long

FH's friends last year had a photo booth and it was pretty cool. Well half those people will be at our wedding, so doing a photo booth would seem like we are copying people. Plus, we don't have the space in our venue for it. We are having good food, an open bar, awesome DJ and a late night lunch so I think we should be good for things people can enjoy.

I found the price to be daunting and we are having a Renaissance affair so it doesn't really work.. however, we really want people to get into the spirit of things -- so we're having a good friend who is a kind of photographer and really an extrovert, take pictures of the guests. We have flower hair garlands, rennie type hats, crowns, and jester stuff -- we thought it would be fun if folks not dressed put stuff on their heads and had a photo taken... that will all work for us...

We didn't have one, nor have I ever been at a wedding that had one. I think you think everyone has one because people talk about it a lot on WW :-)

Def not a necessity..I wanted one, through our photog it was a decent price, but I ended up just not seeing the justification for it in our budget either..After my wedding I was glad I didn't since I didn't think that many probably would have used it, except for the few kids that were there.

We're doing a DIY photo booth, google some ideas, most only cost around 100 or lower Smiley smile
