ARE BUSTLES SUPPOSE TO LOOK THIS AWKWARD?? *UPDATE*

Rynni D., on March 24, 2014 at 11:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 46

I have searched all over Google looking for a fit & flare bustled gown that doesn't look weird. I've just had my alterations appointment with a very talented and seasoned seamstress, I have complete confidence in her skills. However, is it just me or the look of bustles are just plain ugly?

*UPDATE*

I picked up my gown yesterday & the bustle looks amazing, still on the awkward side but not nearly as ugly as I initially thought. I have a very talented seamstress! The lesson is bustles are weird but necessary. Hope this helps anyone in my position.

I hate bustles, but I have seen girls with fit and flares and they do a side bustle and that is the only one I've seen and actually like. Too bad my dress is a-line.

All bustles look weird - they look like you have a wadded sheet back there or you have a instant bubble-butt. Ask your seamstress if you think a single or triple hook bustle will work. IMO the ones with three points of "hooking" look better than one.

Different silhouettes bustle different ways, and some styles have more options. What have you found?

I have a satin ballgown and I did a ballroom bustle. Basically, you just take the train and I have a 9 point bustle on the inside of my gown. It just makes your dress look shorter. It is by far my favorite bustle but it wasn't cheap to have put in.

Here is an internet example I found.

Do you have a pic of your dress? That might help.

Doing a multi-point bustle can up the price of alterations considerably, plus be complicated to figure out on the wedding day. Another option is to lop the train off entirely.

I would look into a side bustle. I agree, some bustles just look strange.

Thank you, I was worried I was missing something. I choose the French over american b/c it was the less ugly of the two. 5 total pins or tucks...

Yea, it all depends of the dress. We did a side bustle on mine because of the ruching and asymmetrical cut. Any traditional bustle would not have worked for me. But even still, it didn't look great. But I have seen some beautiful bustles. Maybe your seamstress can give you a few more options.

Haha, well, I think mine's pretty, but I know that most bustles really just aren't meant to look that great. They're mostly meant to be practical. I have an A-line v-neck with an English bustle.

This is the only bustle I have seen that doesn't look awkward to me.

I'm so glad my dress does not need a bustle.

JG I actually thought your dress was like that! I didn't know, until seeing your ceremony pics, that your dress had a train!

DEFF my fave bustle every, by far.

I love how mine looks bustled and it's a satin trumpet style.

It's only one eyehook, but I think placement is the key.

I hate bustles and I'm not doing one. I'd rather hold my dress or let it drag. Bustles look like the dress is stuck in your butt. lol

Rynn is your gown a Mori Lee 2623?

If so we have the same gown!

I am definitely going to be checking this post because I have no idea what type of bustle I will be doing with my gown..

Yea, some bustles look like you went to the loo and forgot to fix your dress afterwards, but some of them can look good. I still haven't decided how I'm going to do mine.

@Laudie - My dress is almost identical! I have already decided I want mine bustled in a similar way. Won't be going to get alterations until almost a year away now though
