ARE BUSTLES SUPPOSE TO LOOK THIS AWKWARD?? *UPDATE*

I have searched all over Google looking for a fit & flare bustled gown that doesn't look weird. I've just had my alterations appointment with a very talented and seasoned seamstress, I have complete confidence in her skills. However, is it just me or the look of bustles are just plain ugly? *UPDATE*...

*UPDATE*

I picked up my gown yesterday & the bustle looks amazing, still on the awkward side but not nearly as ugly as I initially thought. I have a very talented seamstress! The lesson is bustles are weird but necessary. Hope this helps anyone in my position.

@Ashley, close! It is a Mori Lee gown but style 1923. Same silhouette different beading & appliqués. Is yours gold too?

@Rynn, I see! I tried 2623 in light gold, but purchased the ivory. Wow they are similar! Good choice Smiley smile

Mine was going to have to be bustled like this, if i kept the cathedral train. I nixed that and had it modified into a sweep train...I'll find out for sure what the bustle should look like at my second fitting.

My dress is having a French bustle, and because my dress is a bunch of tiers, it doesn't look like a bustle at all. I hate bustles and if my dress had one that made me look like my dress was stuck in my undies, I planned on having the train hacked off.

I thought about having the trained removed but the gown is too gorgeous with it. Thank you for all the input, Ladies. I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who hates the look of a bustle. I will say that bustles seem to look perfectly placed on some gowns, I guess that depends on the silhouette. I will have to get over that awkward wadded up look of a bustle and just do it! Bustles are purely functional, making it easier for me to move during the reception. Plus, on that Big Day, it'll be the least of my worries. Thanks again!!

I like most bustle but hate the one point bustles I just don't like how they fold on dresses. Here is my bustle I have a 4 point ballroom which is my favorite bustle.

It's a matter of taste I guess. I personally don't like the way most bustles look either. what confuses me is when a girl says she doesn't like pick ups, but that's pretty much how the train is going to look bustled.

for what it's worth, I dont think your bustle looks bad at all.

It looks a little strange to me. It looked like a roll of fur at the bottom until I read the description. Ask if there are any other ways.

Annie, your's is gorgeous, as are a few other examples here. One word of advice, please make sure the bustle will hold all night long. I spent, LITERALLY, an hour of my sister's wedding, chasing down safety pins and repinning her bustle, which fell apart during her reception. It sucked, to put it mildly.

I'm also planning to go with the ballroom underbustle--yes, it will take some time to put up after the ceremony, but it's worth it for me to not look twice my size at the reception Smiley laugh

Here is mine - underbustle as well. I actually thought I would hate it (as I hate almost all bustles) but I like it Smiley smile

When I had my first dress fitting and they did my bustle, my daughter was laughing hysterically at me because she said that it reminded her of the back of the step-sisters ballgown dress from Cinderella! LOL! I actually thought it looked pretty myself Smiley winking After I have my finally fitting I will take pics of it Smiley winking

I'm not feelin' it...I agree with you. Ask your seamstress for other bustling options if you want it bustled. She should be able to come up with a few different styles.

Here is the back of my dress after it is bustled. I love it. She just pinned the train under the ruffles.

I would try your like laudie - similar skirt/fit at the bottom, might look a little more natural. But I agree with the others - they never look correct Smiley smile
