Are accommodation and directions cards needed?

Ang, on May 23, 2017 at 9:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Hi guys,

I know it's a tad early to be thinking about invitations but I'm going to be (hopefully) making them myself so I'm allowing myself a lot of time for revisions and design changes. So far I've planned out and done rough designs for the invites, rsvp, and reception cards that will go in a pocket. Are accommodation and directions cards really necessary? We have only 2 out of state guests we are inviting, the rest are within reasonable driving distance (up to about 45 minutes). So I definitely don't think accommodation cards are necessary in this case, but I'm a little torn on the directions. There's definitely easy access to directions nowadays but I just want to be sure it's ok to leave it out.

Personally it is not needed. everyone can google map the location of the venue. I will have mine in a website. everything will be there.

I condensed all my info so that it could all be on one card and I just titled it "Details". It included directions, accommodations, and the website.

I left it out, but put it on my wedding website (which was included with the invite). As long as there is good cell reception or wifi around your location, you should be fine.

We're not doing directions or accommodation cards, but we did a little insert with our website, which has all the details.

I did directions cards because there are still some spots around where you lose GPS or cell signal and older folks have an easier time with written direction anyways. Seems better to use one extra insert and have them, then not have them and have the older folks calling me asking how to get there from "That getty mart over the bridge".

And just cause guests live 45 mins away from the venue doesn't mean they wont get a hotel room for the nite. Ive been to weddings less then 30 mins away from home and got a room. Esp if you plan on having a little after party.

Thanks everyone! And I know, Ant, I thought about that too but I figure if someone really wants to do that it's pretty simple to locate a nearby hotel. But for OOT guests it makes a lot more sense to provide the info than locals.

Our venue had the directions/hotel info cards. we just told them how many we needed still was just a reg stamp to mail them so no extra cost, and saves people from doing research on hotel info.

I did an accommodation and directions card because my venue is a little hard to find and I had a room block so had to let guest know about the group code. I also don't have a website so I knew I needed it. I also put my email address on them so guest can let me know about allergies and dietary restrictions.

It would be nice to put something on the wedding website, but I don't think an insert is necessary.

I included accommodations cards because we are inviting 100+ out of state guests. I didn't include directions cards because in this day and age I expect everyone to use a GPS!

No, all of that information can go on your website.

I don't think either are necessary. I never look at the direction cards, I just put it into my phone and drive.
